That wacky Onion

Hilarious! On account of how destitute teachers are! Except that the average high school teacher in Pittsfield, Illinois (where the story is supposedly set), makes between $42-43 grand ( LINK), well above the average family income of $38,000! ( Link)

In general, it seems as though the average quality of the person in certain professions has gone down over the last 20 years or so.

Examples:

- Police Officers
- Teachers
- Mechanics
- Clerks (Fast Food, Convenience Store, Grocery, etc.)
- Politicians

the thing about teachers was this used to be one of the few professions woman could do. They didn't have the option to be drs or lawyers or engineers, it was teacher, cashier, secretary and nurse (along with prostitute).

This meant you attracted a much quality of person to the profession, it was basically the smart women who couldn't stand the sight of blood.

Nowadays, education is the easiest degree at many schools. And there is little accountability in the profession. And the smart women go do something that pays well and is appreciated.

Let's not get carried away here. It was more difficult and not expected or encouraged, but the option was definitely there.
