Healthcare is going to be the downfall of this country. States cannot keep doing this.

When Medicaid began in 1966, the government spent $1 billion on the program servicing 4 million enrollees at a per enrollee cost of $222/year.
By 2010, when the Affordable Care Act passed, the government was spending $402 billion on the program servicing 54.5 million enrollees at a cost of $7,361 per enrollee/year.
By 2015, the government was spending $554 billion servicing 68.4 million enrollees at a cost of $8,042 per enrollee/year. Since Medicaid expansion began, some 14.5 million enrollees have been added. By 2015, roughly $57.5 billion of Medicaid expense was attributable to expansion.
Mississippi did not expand, but has still seen an increase in its Medicaid rolls at a substantial cost. By 2015, there were approximately 729,700 Mississippians on Medicaid. 23% of our population.
Total Medicaid spending in Mississippi increased by $2.6 billion between 2004 and 2016. That represents 37% of the growth in total state spending. General fund Medicaid spending increased by $666 million (I didn't make that up) during this period. That represents 30% of the growth in general fund spending.

Finally a post that says it like it is.
I've read over all these healthcare posts and refused to comment because we were all over this a few months ago ad nauseam.
Nothing has changed in terms of then and now except a few minor details (huge to some) that do not address rising premiums, still.
I spent a lot of time in those threads back when earlier this year when Paul Ryan brought his proposal to the table.
Until they adopt a plan that directly addresses the problems within all healthcare and not just cutting, slashing budgets, and redo's nothing will change.
Rand Paul's proposal was about the only one that made sense and attempted to tackle rising costs and not attempting to solve the problem by cutting here and there and putting money here and there..

What's the median cost per enrollee/year?

I've accepted the fact that the government is going to frick around with health care. We're passed the point of no return. But if we're going to do it, for God's sake, break it up by health and not income. Get the elderly, the sick, and all the other people who are too damn expensive to insure off the rolls and into a public plan. Then ration the shite out of it and ballbust drug companies to minimize taxpayer exposure. Taxes can be manipulated and reduced, there is no way to "insure" cancer patients and keep premiums cheap. It's just not possible.

I
I agree with everything you said...
Problem is that it doesn't get votes. Not even Trump (who I support) would like this plan.
I have said in the past that I have multiple family members in the medical field and they have said flat out that if healthcare isn't addressed in the next 10 years in a way that brings down costs that it will all come carshing down.

Also, can you break down the cost per enrollee per year for Medicaid on the following categories:
Disabled
Children
Elderly
Adults, non-disabled
Thanks!
