Empty the prisons! Nothing is your fault anymore. More nonsense from insane fricking stupid scientists.

Stanford scientist, after decades of study, concludes: We don't have free will

This means accepting that a man who shoots into a crowd has no more control over his fate than the victims who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It means treating drunk drivers who barrel into pedestrians just like drivers who suffer a sudden heart attack and veer out of their lane.

fricking bat shite crazy nonsense.

So, this means the professor agrees that the officer had nothing to do with the dope head’s death in Minny?

said Gregg Caruso, a philosopher at SUNY Corning who read early drafts of the book. “I am in agreement with Sapolsky that life without belief in free will is not only possible but preferable.”

The above is from the article. I think this is key to his belief. Sapolsky was raised religious, but became atheist one night. They don’t really detail what happened, but it sounds like it was a thought experiment. I think it makes him more comfortable to think he wasn’t in charge of his decision. It’s interesting though as someone who believes in predestination would believe the same. I have never believed in that particular theology.

This is why our country is spiraling the drain... On one hand, I say speed it up and let come what may come... On the other, such a shame we have allowed the dregs or society and mentally ill in our population take such a country and turn it to what it has become...

This is an age old philosophical debate that still rages. Sane folks like Sam Harris believe it to be true as well and as a neuroscientist he has made some interesting observations. They arent insane, they are just probably wrong...but could also be right at least to a certain extant. There is much we dont understand about consciousness.

In a world where the young are taught to blame someone else for their mistakes, this woke BS comes out and cements it.

Unreal…

Jails would still serve a purpose in a world without freewill.

We're complex enough to take into our environment when we act. Part of our current environment is bad behavior = jail.

This should be the understanding of all atheists. If humans are just evolved animals that formed through no direction, guidance, or purpose, then we are just matter being acted on by natural forces. Our synapses are firing and responding to stimuli and there is no ultimate right or wrong to our actions. Free will is an illusion and so is morality.

Christianity, on the other hand, provides a coherent and rational basis for free will (agency to act according to that which we desire to do) and objective moral reasoning.
