Usually that type of suicide method is done so their life insurance still has to pay up to someone they cared about.

Of course his death was self induced. He commited "suicide by cop." And I didn't assign blame for his death to anyone. I stated that people on this board like to generalize and that I find that amazing, especially considering that they, like yourself, think of themselves as distinct individuals.

"Society" means all of us, not just you and your cohorts. All societies have mores and this poor chap didn't fit in to any of them. He offed himself because of the stress associated with that. I certainly didn't single out you, myself or anyone else as the cause but all of us as a society. We fail when it comes to dealing with mental illness in this country, as the OP implied.

There's no generalizing. When someone decides they hate a perfectly functioning organ/part of their body that they pay to have it mutilated solely so they can feel better about themselves, that's nothing but mental illness. Treating this like it's "normal" or "okay" only instills in them a false belief that they'll ever be considered normal by the majority of humanity.
