Gen Mattis is getting props from left wing print

The MSM angle is that the Dems should oppose all Trump appointments and initiatives. But I've been seeing a different take in print copies of USA Today and NYT since his name came up.
The gist:
Trump is a retard and cannot be left in charge of our military because he will start a nuclear war every weekend.
Having a military guy like Mattis will prevent Trump from these mistakes... as opposed to a Def Sect. picked from Trump's buddies on Wall Street who want a war to prop up the MIC.
This might mean that the Dems go ahead and give Mattis the waiver without much argument.

fighting Mattis seems very, very stupid. he's way too popular and way too qualified
there are plenty of appointments that they can fight (like Sessions, the Dep of Education lady, etc). this seems like they're trying to create a "talking point" to excuse why they won't oppose Mattis to give them cover in the media

I wouldn't want to be a Dem up for reelection with a vote against mattis on the resume.

Mattis is the only one apportionment they could conceivably have any control over with the waiver.
The rest of the appointments only need 51 republican senators to pass and that's something democrats can't do shite about.
They're literally helpless thanks to that piece of shite Harry Reid being a piece of shite invoking the nuke option.

Not so much. The idea of Mattis as SecDef scares the bejeezus out of much of our pusillanimous electorate.
