Some of President Trump’s best friends in Congress sharply criticized his first budget Thursday, with defense hawks saying the proposed hike in Pentagon spending wasn’t big enough, while rural conservatives and others attacked plans to cut a wide range of federal agencies and programs.
I laughed when I read this one. Its a great ploy. ask for the moon and you will get people to stop complaining about the $54 billion.

Many people claiming to be right of center in our country don't want small government, they just want the funding to be allocated for different purposes.

I want less funding. We need to keep our navy, for certain, but let Europe defend Europe. Let Korea, Taiwan, and Japan defend their lands. How many of your own children are worth the survival of the government of Germany? How many members of your family would you trade for a regime change in Iran?

Grand total of THREE combat ready brigades are combat ready (out of 58)And half our Navy planes are grounded.
What?BTW F-18'S are barely operational

Yea,I know it doesn't fit your little Daily Kos/MSNBC narrative but there are serious upgrades needed in our military.

Hey at least we're up to 3 brigades up from TWO in '13

Defense spending is tied to our international commitments. Looking at you NATO.

You want to spend less on defense then drawback our commitments overseas.

How many combat brigades do say, Russia, China, the UK, France and other comparable nations, all of whom spend a fraction of what we do on defense, how many brigades do they have ready?

Because either A) they each have a directly proportional amount of men ready based on the amount they spend or B) combat readiness isn't based entirely on the amount spent in total on the armed forces and we could actually do more with less.

So trim the absurd amount of fat in the military budget and fix the fricking problem

Republitards want to talk about how government and beuraeucracy is inefficient.. but ignore that the military fits the same description

Its not, and the definition used to determine what makes a combat brigade ready is at best dubious.

There's a lot of fat and needless spending in the military but if I started mentioning the most obvious ones that would save the most with the least amount of impact you wouldn't want to hear them.

Of course we could, but this is the USA we're talking about. We have to waste .75 of every dollar we spend on wanton corruption and pointless regulations to keep that freedom ringing baw.

While this is - to a certain degree - a fair critique of the GOP (and traditional - the GOP's entire history of success is based on the success of the Grand Army of the Republic and successor organizations - of which I am a ~30 veteran) - at the very least defense is a clearly delineated constitutional function of the federal government.

That's just as valid an argument to make as yours.

You snivelling pussyfart liberals don't realize the neglect and damage the idiot who infected the White House from '09 to '17 did to the military. You have mechanized howitzer (Paladin) battalions that have 40% of their equipment deadlined, meaning non-deployable or combat ready due to neglected maintenance issues. We should double the increase in military spending.

Where did the 54 billion number come from? Did the military request this or did Trump just decide it was needed? And how is it going to be allocated in the military?

It seems like a completely unnecessary waste of money. Are we safer because of this? If so who the frick from?
