A white progressive needs to sit down with Marcellus and explain to him that he is misinformed.

Remind me, how many mass shootings happen in France again?

quote:

Between 2000 and 2014, there were 133 mass shootings in the US and only one in France. Three of the five deadliest killings in US history have taken place in the last 18 months (Las Vegas, 58 dead; Orlando, 49 dead; Texas, 26 dead).

LINK /

Scaling for population, US homicide rates are far higher than the rest of the world - in fact, France's homicide rate is 1.3 per 100,000.

The US is almost 5x that - in fact, if you just look at the white population (i.e white homicide defendants), they occur at a rate 4x that of France. So it can't be pinned on gang crime either because this is comparing white American defendants to France.

From 1998 to 2019, France had 8 mass shootings. America had 101 mass shootings i.e not gang crime. Scaling for population, the US has a much higher rate of mass shooting - and this is despite France being one of the most violent Western countries.

In those countries the mentally ill use bombs.

Clearly not though.

Rates of homicide are lower in those countries by quite a significant amount. Bombs are also much harder to build and access - many people who try to carry out bomb attacks end up failing at building them. Guns are much more accessible - trucks and cars can't get indoors and are harder to manoeuvre/easier to avoid.

In fact, looking at white defendant homicide rates in the US, homicide rates are still 4x higher than France which is one of the most violent Western countries. It's not gang crime either when we look at the white population alone in the US.

Remind me again, how many times has the USA been invaded by a foreign power?

Remind me again, how many times in the past 100 years have the French elected a Socialist or a Communist to run their country??

That's a deflection.

Either address the point or don't.

Its not just mental illness, it progressive culture, social media, and fatherless homes. Why have these mass shootings only become common in the last 20 years?

We've always had guns and they used to be even easier to get.

They were common before that as well.

They've just become even more common now.

And I'd rather not live in the past but the present. Talking about how things were less common in the past isn't going to fix the present.

And I'm not arguing for banning guns at all. I just think if someone has so many mental health flags and a history of violence, they shouldn't be able to get a gun.

It won't stop all killings but many of these psychos have a history.

So you agree it's a mental health issue and not a gun issue?

It's both.

The fact that the mentally ill have access to guns is the issue.

Mental illness exists in most societies and will never be eradicated but we shouldn't be giving guns to the mentally ill.

Having mentally ill people in your country isn't the problem, enabling and praising their mental illness is the problem.

When you see Asst. Sec. of Health "Rachel" Levine and don't think to yourself, "man, that is one ugly dude", then there is something wrong with you.

We have a Party in power (as well as a Media) that now promotes the mentally ill as normal.

That doesn't necessarily mean that gun control laws work. It could just as easily mean that the French are unable to hit a target.

Ehh, the issue I have with this is there were mass killings. The German wings flight crash, the Paris attacks, the nice truck incident, port de Vincennes massacre, Charlie hedbo massacre, the trebes attack, strasbourg attack, Paris fire started by an arson, Paris police headquarters attack, Toulouse attacks.

The problem here is a lot of this is Islamic terrorist stuff. So I guess we got to leave those out. They don’t count. Just looking the majority of the mass killings in France since 2012 were done by Islamic extremists.
