Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Friday that lowers from a felony to a misdemeanor the crime of knowingly exposing a sexual partner to HIV without disclosing the infection. The measure also applies to those who give blood without telling the blood bank that they are HIV-positive. Modern medicine allows those with HIV to live longer lives and nearly eliminates the possibility of transmission, according to state Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblyman Todd Gloria (D-San Diego), authors of the bill. “Today California took a major step toward treating HIV as a public health issue, instead of treating people living with HIV as criminals,” Wiener said in a statement. “HIV should be treated

Seriously, California should be kicked out of the USA. OMG that state is so sick. Build the wall northward after Mexico part is finished. Sick.

A couple of days ago Rush was talking about anal cancer being the new deadly std that no one is talking about. I had never even heard of such a thing - anal cancer

No one is talking about it for a reason, of course. Meanwhile teen vogue recently had an anal sex how to article with a handy diagram. Thanks teen vogue!

You still have the element of concealment and an unknowing victim whose life will be irreparably altered regardless of how you want to characterize the disease. This is not good public policy.

Aren't HIV meds that allow you to live longer extremely expensive?

Is the state going to pick up these perscriptions?

So knowingly giving someone a death sentence (that's exactly what aids is) is a misdemeanor in Cali now? The inmates are running the asylum there.

Thanks for unleashing a third world plague upon this country, now go infect the nation's blood supply. Don't worry, we will still spend billions in public health funding on you because it is your god given right to bareback hundreds of anonymous twinks to cook up the next drug restistant strain in the Petri dish you call a body. Wave those flags high.

They claim they wanna treat it like a public Heath issue, but they just took away the deterrent that was put in place to prevent knowingly exposing unsuspecting partners. What it's going to lead to is another public health crisis just as it did in the 80's and 90's

And the fact that they took away the penalty regarding giving blood is just fricking insane. That risks the health of millions of people. That kid Ryan White was the poster child of persons infected due to a blood transfusion.

Hey, dipshit! People with HIV are not being treated like criminals. Only the bastards that do criminal things are!!!

Does he believe that HIV positive people are immune from committing heinous crimes, you know, like infecting unsuspecting people with HIV?

"Oh, you're HIV positive? No worries. Go ahead a rob that liquor store. It's all good."

Holy SHIITE - I hope they quarantine that scum - don't let it out of the state - give it only to citizens of CA. Provide certified AIDS-free blood for tourists who just happen to get into an accident and need transfusion there.

I literally hate what DEMs have done to CA and that is precisely what they want for the rest of the nation
