Driving the car through the crowd and then driving back through the crowd in reverse doesn't sound and doesn't look like and accident.

This is a ridiculous argument. The Civil War might be the most documented and written about event in US history. This includes past documents from both sides of the fight along with all the current papers written in the subject.
Removing a statue only erases history for people that can't read and need a pretty statue with zero context to remind them of an event.

I still don't know all the details but I'm not surprised something like this happened to some counter protesters.
They came to Charlottesville to cause violence against right-wingers so violence came to them.
However, that doesn't mean I support what happened.
I believe in only non-violent peaceful protests like MLK Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi advocated.

Those counter protester came to Charlottesville with the sole intent to cause violence to stop the peaceful demonstration.
I saw plenty of water bottles filled with whatever and even newspaper racks thrown by the counter protesters at the people who were there to have a peaceful demonstration.
