Turnout for this was higher than for just about every Virginia primary ever.

While that is true, it doesn't detract from the fact that hardly anyone voted.

Shall we discuss appropriate comparisons? Or would you like to compare these numbers from a separate sampling effort?

and you call yourself a statistician?

Turnout was super low 2 years ago. It was just really low this year. 750,000 people live in this district.

Personally, I'd probably prefer Cantor to this other guy
Well, that should probably tell you all you need to know about why Cantor lost then. I mean, I'm assuming you wont be taking advice from conservatives on whom the next Dem nominee for President should be, right?

My point is that while it increased 28% it was still VERY LOW.

And, I don't really call myself a statistician.

So what would you suggest is the reason for the "very low" turnout?

Not really sure. Its a trend that isn't happening only in Virginia.

First, while turnout did increase, it wasn't a 50% increase.

2012-47,037
2014-65,008

Second, regardless of what the increase was its still a paltry % of eligible or registered voters in that district that actually turned out.

Just to be clear, turnout increased 28% not 50%

I was parroting the link. The article said 50% and I didn't check the math. But now that you mention it: (65,008/47,037 - 1)*100 = 38.2% increase.

But it isnt. Compared to all other similar events...IT'S HIGHER.

you cant redefine the sampling space because you want to fit a narrative.

Not sure its a trend if its happened in 1 election.

Look nationwide and you will see the trend.

The Tea Party morons in the Mid West always are screaming about Muslims etc and the need to go back to Leave it to beaver Christian America. We want our country back) They sent the message loud and clear yesterday. So much for the big tent of the republicans.

Just the same it didn't break my heart at all. They are saying the district will remain republican though.

Again for the umpteenth time, the Tea Party had very little, I mean very little to do with Brat's win yesterday.

But why are you so butt hurt over the Tea Party?
