Across the dooryard the tractor cut, and the hard, foot-beaten ground was seeded field, and the tractor cut through again; the uncut space was ten feet wide. And back he came. The iron guard bit into the house corner, crumbled the wall, and wrenched the little house from its foundation so that it fell sideways, crushed like a bug. And the driver was goggled and a rubber mask covered his nose and mouth. The tractor cut a straight line on, and the air and the ground vibrated with its thunder. The tenant man stared after it, his rifle in his hand. his wife was beside him, and the quiet children behind. And all of them stared after the tractor.

The DOJ cannot just walk in and tell the IRS what case to drop and what to take up. The DOJ doesn’t have any authority over Title 26. That’s all IRS.
If this is what happened.. one of two things is possible. Neither is more palatable than the other.
1) The DOJ asked nicely and the IRS was looking for a way out and just rolled over.
2) the DOJ said they wouldn’t prosecute any crimes they found so they are wasting their time.
#2 wouldn’t stop the IRS from assessing tax on unreported income and collecting it. But the criminal aspect is toast.
If it’s #1, the country is toast. It’s officially a two tiered justice system AND tax enforcement system.
