Proterra, an electric bus company touted by the Biden administration, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The electric vehicle and storage company, which has been featured by President Joe Biden on multiple occasions, filed for bankruptcy after the New York Stock Exchange closed on Monday night, according to Reuters. It valued its assets and liabilities at somewhere between $500 million and $1 billion, down from $1.6 billion in January 2021. The company's stock plummeted to nearly a third of its value within an hour of the quiet declaration, and by closing on Tuesday, it was roughly one-seventh of its Monday closing value. The electric vehicle company, which produces electric buses for transit fleets, has been highlighted by the Biden administration a few times, and the company's CEO, Gareth Joyce, was also appointed to a top White House advisory council by the president earlier this year. Biden also participated in a virtual tour of a Proterra manufacturing facility in South Carolina in 2021, where he revealed he used to be a bus driver. "I want you all to know I used to be a bus driver," he said at the end of the event. "You think I'm kidding. I'm not. I worked my way through law school driving a school bus."

As a caveat, Joe lies about being a bus driver. No joke!

Chapter 11 is a reorganization, not a liquidation. Usually, it is a result of cash flow problems, not insolvency. A number of Trump businesses have utilized Chapter 11 as well. I was not critical of him for it, and it is hard to be critical of this company, without knowing more.

This is a pretty good short article about the cause(s) of its bankruptcy. It sounds like the problems were market-related, not EV-related.

Same company that built our buses, which failed, city got fed grants to fund it

"There's going to be learning curves along the way," Ross said. "So while this bus has been a lemon—somewhat of a lemon—we also understand the technology is improving in leaps and bounds as time goes on."

Proterra agrees.

"With the introduction of any new technology, we expect there to be some learning curves along the way," the company told Car and Driver.

I specifically said that I do not fault him for using Chapter 11. Hell, during the 2016 primaries, I already disliked him but was the poster who responded to anti-Trump Republicans on this very issue ... to DEFEND him.

Classic pump and dump. Government gives all kinds of taxpayer money into a project that probably won’t work, and everyone involved gets richer as the taxpayer gets soaked for the failure.

Market-related, in that there is no market for EV buses, which is "EV-related"

You would have to ask someone who actually holds these positions. Of course there is inflation. After the COVID money dump, it would be impossible to be otherwise, and Biden is definitely a sub-par POTUS.

Doesn’t it bother you that taxpayer money is being wasted on technology that’s not practical?
The reason the company failed is because the buses don’t work.
If it’s a cold climate, they can’t tolerate the cold. The buses also struggled to climb hills, and If and when they broke, it took months to repair.
