What's changed is this board has been overwhelmed by idiots. I challenge you to find a single thoughtful, substantive post by V&S on this board....and he doesn't stand alone in that regard.

Hey man, if anything I post has upset you, feel free to RA. Despite the fact that I routinely disagree with you, I actually respected you as a poster because you aren't a mindless hack. Your recent obsession with me is disappointing not because I give a shite if you like me or not, but because you're smart enough to not let some sarcastic posts or gifs bother you this much. At least I thought you were.

I think where you whiff on this is that while bombs and drone strikes have resulted in the death of some innocents and western governments know that is a highly possible outcome in a number of the situations, it's altogether different from guys crawling into a house killing settler adults and then deciding to also kill an infant. They had the opportunity to not do that.

As I said earlier, I don't think the killing of the infants was morally justified by any stretch of the imagination. Kids should never be punished for the actions of their parents. You and I agree on that. What I do think is justified is the general concept of resistance to the occupation. What some posters here have conveniently done is take that to mean that I supoort each and every action that the Palestinians have ever committed which couldn't be further from the truth.

As for our use of drones and other weapons that inflict mass casualties, I don't think they should be used in densely populated areas where there are large number of civilians present. Weapons like these should be limited to the battlefield and other areas where the chances for collateral damage are very low.

And I know the US killed a teenage US citizen that's equally awful. And I know that US soldiers have committed acts of murder against women and children...but that doesn't justify equally horrible acts

Amen! I believe you are referring to the cold-blooded murder of Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, which IMO was every bit as deplorable an act as slashing the throats of the kids mentioned above. Al-Awlaki was targeted not because of anything he had done or was planning to do, but solely because of who his father was. Robert Gibbs defended the killing by implying that he was targeted because he might grow up to be a terrorist like his father.

Both Mybarak and Morsi are starting to look pretty good compared to Al-Sisi.

The United Nations has expressed concern about the "increasingly severe clampdown and physical attacks" on journalists in Egypt, singling out three Al Jazeera reporters held for more than a month.

In a statement released on Friday, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said the clampdown on the media by Egyptian authorities was hampering the ability of journalists to operate freely.

"In recent months, there have been numerous reports of harassment, detention and prosecution of national and international journalists as well as violent attacks, including several that led to injuries to reporters trying to cover last weekend’s third anniversary of the Egyptian revolution," said Rupert Colville, the commissioner's spokesman.

The UNHCR said it was concerned about the Egyptian Prosecutor-General's intention to bring to trial 16 local and three foreign journalists working for Al Jazeera, on charges including "aiding a terrorist group" and "harming the national interest"

Correspondent Peter Greste and producers Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed have been held in custody more than a month without charge.

Human rights groups say conditions for journalists in Egypt have become difficult since former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was removed in a coup on July 3, 2013.

I'm all for our allies controlling Egypt, rather than our sworn enemies.

Meh. PM still engages in debate - concedes obvious points and uses critical thinking to support his arguments. I rarely agree with him, but he is definitely a cut above from the progressive drones - (Rex, VB, Spidey, to name a few) and he's better than a lot of our Pavlovian right wingers, as well.

A little negative, but I can be negative at times.
