I mean, those same statues have been up for many decades. Why is it so important that they be pulled down, now?

I think the left has always tried to portray the right as bigots, and they are running out of valid arguments. So now this is their latest strategy: Raise hell about the racist statues and anybody who argues that we shouldn't pull them down is obviously a racist.

They really don't care about the statues - pulling them down is just a political tool. Most people in that fight Charlottesburg probably couldn't tell you if Virginia was part of the Union or the Confederacy and don't know the difference between General Sherman and General Lee.

I can see both sides on this issue but trying to get rid of the statues won't improve their lives.

Very telling the dear leader didn't push to have these taken down during his tenure.

They knew this way would stir things up more, and the MSM would tote their water.

Was Germany wrong in removing all displays and homages to the Nazi party in post-war Germany?

If the biggest thing you have to complain about in your life are century-old statues you're probably doing alright in life

in my hometown there`s a confederate statue on the courthouse lawn, used to actually be in the middle of the street before i was born, every time i see an old picture of that town theres the old confederate soldier in it, i remember walking by it numerous times as a kid, so yeah kinda a link to the past as well as my past, which has positive feelings for me, thats why i can understand why it may not for black folks.

I believe the Allies did most of that.

They still have some things like the preserved concentration camps for all to see. Those would trigger the leftist snowflakes here though.

Germany is letting their country be overrun by immigrants right now due to their Hitler guilt.

This is the "moo crowd". Cattle. The media tells them to get upset and they get upset. Thirty years of dumbing down the educational system, instant social media, 24 hour liberal news channels and this is what you get.

I think the thing that bothers me the most is the way in which they change the meanings of these monuments to fit their narrative. It gives them the foot in the door that they need to tear down anything they deem offensive,

I've said many times that this is only the beginning. Statues of Jefferson and Washington are going to be targeted soon.

Apples and oranges. Germany pulled the Nazi symbols down right after the war ended, not after they've been on display for 100+ years. And I don't remember hearing about Robert E Lee or Jefferson Davis sending innocent people to concentration camps to be tortured and gassed.

I dont give 2 shits about the statues. What I see is a trend that does not bode well for freedom.

Does anybody really care about these statues being up at courthouses and public parks? I mean, those statues represent people who are long gone and can easily tell the story of history from a museum.

I'm fine with that.

But so far, these things are just being removed for removal sake, with no end game.

These statues will be deemed inappropriate at museums as well.

comparing the confederacy to Germany is beyond idiocy, the Confederacy for the most part conducted themselves admirably in wartime and as far as i know even with slaves who were old and no longer a financial benefit didn`t euthanize them, for the most part the confederacy contained moral people by 1860`s standards

I have no objection to moving statutes to battlegrounds and cemeteries or whatever. I care about "what's next."

I don't want them sandblasting an amazing relief off of Stone Mountain, or going after founders, etc.

If our society generally doesn't want confederate emblems representing our town squares anymore - fine. But fringe liberals aren't doing it to "ease the pain of people of color," they're doing it because it's the next rung on the ladder to tearing down the entire institution.

This isn't a slippery slope argument, I don't think there is public support for the fringe (at least at present). But it's confederate monuments, then founders. Then once the founders are pieces of shite, we can more easily question how they set this country up. Then we're really fricked.
