I do. I think they really do work night and day to protect Americans from foreign threats.

Sometimes they may even take their devotion to keeping Americans safe too far to the point where it infringes on our privacy.

But I truly believe they are 100% on our side and protecting Americans is their #1 goal.

I want to say yes, but power and money can corrupt anyone.

I don't believe the CIA is truly on the side of average tax-paying Americans after 16 years of being stocked by the most blatant neocon and neoliberal administrations in American history.

The CIA is full of assholes like Evan McMullin - and he's on the RIGHT. Imagine the worthless crap that joined and was appointed under Obama.

I'm sure they do, or at least they think they do.

The real crux of the issue is, what is in America's best interest. Their answer might be different than yours.

I wouldn't call it a conspiracy per se, but I do believe they do as they are told. If there's a universal trait to most people in these agencies it's that they're chaulk full of yes men.

When you have people who think saying no is treasonous, you end up with situations like the IRS scandals and the Clinton's. I don't think they have the best interests at heart, but that's mostly because they aren't allowed to think for themselves and take orders without question. It's the people at the top I don't trust, not the desk jockeys.

Not that same as Americans

America's best interest is in a way in every Americans' best interest. But not every American's best interest is in the best interest of America in the way they operate. Maybe it's the way it has to be though

Prime example: Operation Northwoods which was turned down by JFK was a proposal to stage false flag attacks that would include killing civilians, to be carried out by the CIA. It was to justify an invasion of Cuba. Yeah its messed up, but it would have prevented the Cuban Missile Crisis which was the closest we've come to a nuclear holocaust.

I wouldn't trust my life or well being in the hands of the CIA, but I trust they are doing what is in the best interest of the Nation that me and my family are a part of. Not necessarily altruistic IMO, just doing what needs to be done in the cut throats business of geopolitics.

What are American interest?

If it's controlling our national debt, protecting our sovereignty, and advancing liberty then, no. They do not have the best interest of American at their hearts.

If it means controlling the power structure, intervening in foreign affairs and making sure Americans are a obedient and compliant populous, then yes they have American interest at heart.

going to need one hell of a lot of bandwidth to define and debate that concept.

I think they have the best interest of America at heart. Conservatives think that means best interests of individual Americans and Liberals think of America as the State. The problem is there are still too many Obama people in high positions in these agencies.

Are they a political department. They are human and have human frailties. The agents have fears and ambitions like most.
Do you believe it would have been in the best interest of Americans and Justice would have been served if Comey had recommended that Hillary be indited?

I definitely believe the majority of them have the very best intentions and are true Patriots.

I fear that the higher up one goes the more politically influenced and corrupted they become.

I think a lot of good folks probably get lost trying to navigate this answer

ambiguity is probably unreal

By and large, yes. Of course they're incredibly powerful agencies and in their long history have had some bad apples and run some ill-advised programs and operations. Like any other agency in their position the public only hears about them when they screw up or when their activities are controversial. But they do a lot of good work round the clock that doesn't get publicity because it's not as sexy or there's no hint of scandal.

Utter bullshite - their complicitness in the Trump / Russia "scandal" has literally undermined the Presidency of Trump and has us closer to a nuclear conflict and/or WWIII than at any time since the height of the Cold War.

The CIA is actively working against Trump and has been since he was still a candidate.

Yes, and those who make fertilizer certainly don't do so to make bombs. What's your point?

I tend to agree with this. It may actually be only 1 or 2 people at the very top that are truly corrupted.

To an extent, but their main motivations are self-preservation and the advancement of their agencies.

If it was announced that the CIA was being folded as an organization, do you think they would go away quietly for the good of the country? Or would they go scorched earth, which would not be good for the country?
