This song is so jingoistic and simple that you actually lose brain cells each time it plays.

And this coming from a yuge DJT backer.

Reminds me of the Gulf War and the Support Our Troops signs in everyone's front yard.

Same. Crazy that's over 25 years ago. Yowzah

I always liked the song. It's a little syrupy but whatever.

I remember when that song first came out back in Reagan days.

I just remember it blowing up in the lead-up to the Persian Gulf War. That's probably what made it iconic. I had one cousin in the Army at the time who set to deploy and I remember all the women in the family melting down about it--scared of "Saddam and the Republican Guard"

+1. Since Election Day I have basically listened to it every day, as well as Stars and Stripes Forever by the USMC Band.

Interesting bit of trivia about this song: Lee Greenwood has seven #1 hits on the country charts--"God Bless the USA" is NOT one of the seven.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to pick up on that.

Oh, I remember the air time that song got at that time.

I was in middle school at that time. I can remember buying tons of Operation Desert Shield/Storm crap from Schwegmann’s in Baton Rouge, like t-shirts, buttons, bumper stickers, etc. I also remember buying a role of "Shi'ite Brand" toilet paper from the dollar store in Cortana, and it had Saddam's face on it. People were also freaked out about terrorist attacks on the plants along the Mississippi.

Oh, and I remember how people were bitching because gas had gone over a dollar a gallon! If they only knew...
