Did Newegg pop the patent troll bubble?

They are the first company to successfully fight a patent troll in court. This could be a great blow to the existence of "IP".

Quite a jump from fighting off patent trolls to eliminating legitimate protection of patents.

To my knowledge, it's the first successful venture in taking on a patent troll in the internet age. So it's big.

We've already seen other things that chip away at the idea of IP, and this could be the start of another thing.

It's not. There were plenty of patent troll fights in the late 90s. The first major victory was against the patent on music tech that lets you sample music before you download it. Huge for the online music industry.

This is a huge decision.
Legitimate IP protection won't be affected.
This is just hopefully the first salvo in changing the ridiculous patent laws.
One issue is the insane number of process and idea patents that have been issued that should have never been.

The entire system needs an overhaul and hopefully this will be the catalyst.

it's to the point that there is probably little you can do on the Internet without violating multiple patents.
