Did anyone here vote for Bob Dole in the primaries?

For you older posters... I was having a conversation with a fellow older conservative about how the fix was in for Hillary during the Dem primaries.
I mentioned that when Dole won the nomination I never met a person IRL who voted for Dole in the primaries. Was the 'fix' in for Dole?

Considering it was 1996, why would any of your friends be voting in a republican primary in Louisiana? Louisiana was a democratic state then with way more democrats than republicans

Maybe South La. was still Dem in 1996 but white Shreveport-Bossier was heavily registered Republican.

it was over by march. the arkansas primary wasn't until may back then. by that time it was over every other candidate had withdrawn.

I voted for Dole. There weren't many viable options. Lamar Alexander got 11% in Tennessee even though he had dropped out a week before the primary. Dole wasn't a viable option himself. No one was going to beat Clinton.

Would've been a fine Pres.

I couldn't vote in the primaries since I am Libertarian and voted for Harry Browne in the general. But most of my friends voted for Buchanan.

the Louisianan caucus was the high drama point in the race febuary 6th and buchanan won that. by march 14th he suspended his campaign.

Iirc, my parents voted for Pat Buchanon in 1996. Either him or Alan Keys.
I know for sure in 2000 my dad did vote for Keys, can't speak for my mother though.

Valid question. What an awful candidate. His energy made Fred Thompson look like Richard Simmons.

No one was going to beat Clinton with a conservativish 3rd-party candidate also in the race.
Clinton still didn't get 50% of the vote with the lowest turnout sunce 1924. He wasn't an unbeatable candidate. The Republicans put forth an unelectable candidate.

I voted for Dole, based solely off his WW2 service. He was a ww2 veteran.

Agreed, the Dole of 1996 makes the Bernie or even Hillary of today look high energy. I admire his service in WWII, but he was well past his sell-by date in 96.
