WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security will start construction of prototypes for a border wall this summer in the San Diego area, agency officials said on Tuesday, the first step in fulfilling a campaign promise made by President Trump.

Homeland security officials said the prototypes would be added to the existing border walls in San Diego and would allow the agency to evaluate which barriers are most effective in giving Border Patrol agents time to respond to illegal drugs and human smuggling. Officials said they planned to build four to eight prototypes but did not say when construction would begin.

“We own that land, have access to it and it’s a good place to start testing in a real-world environment,” Ronald D. Vitiello, acting deputy commissioner at Customs and Border Protection, said at a news briefing.

Senator John Cornyn, a Republican, has questioned the effectiveness of a border wall, saying, “I don’t think we’re just going to be able to solve border security with a physical barrier because people can come under, around it and through it.”

There is a guy who doesn't know how's walls work. If you build it right, they shouldn't be able to go through, over, or around it. Then you only have to worry about under. Control your variables. But libtards will eat that shite up, because it's a republicans disagreeing with Trump.

It astounds me that we sent people to the moon several times 40 to 50 years ago and someone thinks that a physical barrier couldn't be combined with technology in 2017 to make life difficult for the cayotes and smugglers.

It's insane.

Oh, they know it can be done, they are just hoping to discourage it.
What surprises me,is that they even think anyone is listening to them at all.

Ask Israel. Making no effort to think about this yourself doesn't make you right. Just saying.

That's the big question. I don't understand why any natural U.S Citizen would be against a measure that could help prevent illegal immigration into our country.
Since it is a career politician, there is probably lobby money behind his words.

I don't understand the argument that a wall is pointless because it can't keep EVERYONE out and some people will make it through. Yeah, that's true for all attempts to curb immigration but most people won't be able to make it and we can supplement with other methods to cut that down even more.
