That vision died with MLK. Now, you have leaders like Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson who want to create a world in which minorities gain supremacy, not equality. Throw in incredibly naive and uneducated whites, despite having college degrees, plagued by "white guilt" and you have a shite storm of hate and stupidity. The fight for equality evolved into something ugly and unrecognizable.
ETA: You can say the same for any left social movement. The feminists, LGBTQ community and whatever other social movement want to create a world in which their ideology is supreme. They don't want to live in harmony with people unlike them; they would rather see them dead.

That's pretty much every "equality" movement these days. The women's equality movement is exactly the same. Hell, women are half the population yet get preferential business loan and tax treatment.
