The left is losing their minds over the possibility of DACA ending. Unfortunately they have zero credibility with anything anymore because they lose their minds when Melania wears high heels on AF1 and when Trump orders two scoops of ice cream.

The right seems pretty anti-DACA and fired up about ending it, based on the number of lawsuits filed by states.

A Wikipedia scan tells me that DACA grants no path to citizenship, provides no federal benefits, only applies to young people here prior to June 2012 who meet educational and criminal requirements, has to b renewed every 2 years, and is self funded through fees.

What am missing? Why is DACA a bad program?

According to Wikipedia they pay $500 to apply for DACA and another $500 every 2 years to renew.

Whether it's good or bad is irrelevant. An EO cannot override the law. If everyone thinks DACA is ok, pass it through congress.

Good point, no.

However, I imagine most of them were dragged here by their parents, seeing as they were under 16 when they got here. My point being that the DACA kid didn't intentionally break the law, their parents did.

As long as they can't vote, don't receive federal benefits, and are contributing members of society I don't see the problem letting them stay for 2 years.

It's not but its current iteration is an overreach of power.

Sounds good.

I understand and agree with the procedural complaints against DACA. I was just wondering if there was something else I was missing that had to do with the effects of DACA on the economy, security, etc.

Are 2 year olds applying for DACA status?

Maybe I misread, but it looked like it only applies to people who have been here since 2007.

I guess that means a 10 year old could apply, but not a 2 year old.

Is DACA a law passed by congress? If you can answer yes then Trump shouldn't be able to end it. If it is an EO then it is an abuse of power and goes against laws on the books, and should be eliminated.

I'd like there to be a pathway to citizenship for those who add value to our economy, but that pathway has to be created by the proper branch of government.

Hint, it's not the executive.

I'm not the poster you asked the question but I would be against the EO no matter who signed it. In fact, I would be more upset were it a GOP president.

Yea, you're just projecting. Take a step away from the keyboard and consider for even a second that not every individual who believes in the separation of powers is a rampant Obamaphobe. Be better than this.

I would prefer the Legislative Branch of FedGov to create immigration laws. I would like the Executive Branch to ENFORCE those laws.

If any Executive Order dares even hint at usurpation of the powers of the Legislative Branch, I oppose that EO.

I like the idea of THIS Chief Executive purging his Branch from Obama's Experiment of writing immigration law from the Oval Office. I like the idea of kicking the whole bundle right back where it belongs -- to the Legislative Branch.

Let Congress deal with the problem. Make them do something that they would hate to do and that is: Do their job.
