There is still a small, but very vocal, segment of the population that demands government "do something"...even if "something" actually does nothing at all. They are terrified/concerned because that is the basis of their perceived "moral superiority" to mask their lack of individual self-esteem.

However, that "something" still allows the current administration to justify governing by fiat. THAT is the lasting effect of Covid. If you declare anything a "public emergency" Governors, mayors, bureaucratic political agencies such as the Department of.... can create "law" completely outside the legislative process. Executive branch officials and state agencies are willing giving up that power.

Glad my kids are in private school and the school thumbed their nose at the state..

My kids are in private school under the Catholic Diocese and they follow state guidance like the Bible.

last summer, our Catholic school sent email after email all summer about their "having no plan" to reinstitute masks for the fall, right up until it was too late to enroll elsewhere.

I feel like this will only hurt them in November...see Virginia. This is so stupid. I am a teacher in liberal NJ and we haven't worn masks in school since last March.

I can't believe they are trying this again.
