No, highly functioning as usual.
You're thinking in a shallow manner.
I realize that you and I would not have acted stupidly in the same situation. I realize that he acted stupidly which led to his death.
That's just not the whole story.

I am certain the deceased gentleman just knew deep down that once the cops told him to "put your hands behind your back", they were going to summarily execute him on the side of the street... Which is why he shoved the officer and ran...

We don't have all the details just based on the video. Knowing only what I saw in the video, should not have killed the unarmed man. Cops had no practical reason to fear for their lives, limbs, or eyesight, nor anyone else's. Probably just embarrassed that a 50 yo man was able to juke him out so easily TBH. Looks to me like anger and embarrassment ruled the cops actions.
With a truly skilled police force, this incident never happens. With one enabled by a "run and you die" mantra, this will never stop.
If the guy never runs, he would be alive. No doubt about that in my mind, but that's not a standard I want to hold cops to. If there is no actual threat to life limb or eyesight, then you need to find other means of handling this.
Consider if this dude had a mental disability, like a young guy I saw in wal mart last week. He was flailing around knocking over displays and nobody could stop him. What's the cop going to do there? Shoot him if he doesn't stop? Naw. That's silly. Nobody would agree to shooting him unless the kid was about to hurt someone or demonstrated a legit threat to others.
The guy who was killed here, he made a huge mistake that cost him his life. But he isn't the one paid to handle these interactions. The cops are. So I expect better from them and hold them to a much higher standard. A standard in keeping with the authority they claim over us.

Can you give some examples of what you are referring to?

Also...
Officer, I have a valid concealed carry permit and I have a firearm in the vehicle. For our safety, what would you like me to do next (with both hands on wheel)?
If you can't get the license and carry card out in time.

FREEDOM!!! Unless you want to do something mildly dangerous in which case you deserve to lose freedom of movement.
I mean, its the white drivers fault if he doesnt see you until the last second, swerves causing an accident, rolls his car, and hits a pole killing his daughter in the back seat. You were just poor and doing something mildly dangerous. We cant restrict your freedom like that on public roadways!

Just read Mr Cartons post. He is thinking deeply about what happened and what continues to happen.
Dumb people are not getting smarter. Cops need to be more judicious in their decisions to engage with people and then in their handling of the situation that arises from their choice to engage. That's the only answer.

The best advice ever on how to deal with cops is taught in a CC class.
Just cup the balls and do whatever they say. If they ask to frick your wife or girlfriend, agree. Otherwise, they can and will use any tool at their disposal to show you just how powerful they are.
And hey, I mean they are protecting our freedoms, so why not just accept that cops can pull you over without cause, claim to smell pot, and search your vehicle and detain you for hours any time they want?
Amirite?

So you believe no one should be able to walk or ride a bike on the street at night without a headlight of some sort? Because they might cause an accident? Just to clarify.

CNN has their headline. Left wing terroist will be called upon for more acts of terroism. Real facts are not needed.

It's irresponsible to do so on the bike. It could be against the law depending on the municipality.
We must have lights on our bikes here. It's not so the cops can stop us if we don't though.
Should police stop you for texting and driving if it's against the law.
It's not like not wearing a seatbelt where the only person at risk is you.
Again, I was stopped for not having a working light on my bike. I didn't get shot. How do you explain that?

there definitely should be some new SOPs and techniques, training...etc.
but to the point where he was shot, the way he stopped and turned, the officer has no choice.
I don't know why he's screaming "I'll fricking shoot you" does he see him reaching in his pants? or is he angry because he ran?
they know he had a knife because he told them, but there's no way of knowing if he had a gun. we don't have enough super soldiers with ocular pat down abilities
it's horrible to watch, but it's a clean shoot and I can understand every action in the video including why the guy stopped and turned...and the cop's perception of that...but running from the cops is the decision that does not make sense and facilitated the loss of life.

Absolutely NOTHING makes an officer more nervous than a vehicle driver moving around as they approach a vehicle. With the possible exception being domestic violence calls.

Ok. At what point did the cops see that? After they shot him in the back while he ran the opposite direction of bladed weapon effectiveness?

Poor po pos.
"dont fricking move! Cops hate it when you move. Just sit motionless until the cop inserts his dick in your arse, then, if asked, push back against him until he tells you it's over. Pay your fine within 30 days. Have a nice day, citizen"
