Police say officers were trying to stop Kenneth McNeal, 21, who they say was trespassing in Williams Park while walking a dog, which was on a leash. When McNeal ignored officers' verbal directions to stop so they could question him, they tried to physically detain him. Police say there was a struggle, then McNeal let go of the leash and the dog tried to bite one of the officers.

That's when, police say, the officer shot and killed the dog.

You're getting the cops confused with LSU fans, and tazing confused with piss balloons.

It's not quite what I thought it would be. Disgusting, nevertheless.

Cop doing his job. Asks to talk to a guy who is in a place he should not be. THE GUY IGNORES THE COP. Cop tries to detain the man. DOG TRIES TO BITE THE COP. Dog gets shot.

I'm dont know what really happened here, but so far this small and unfortunate incident several states away does not rise to the level of give-a-hot-damn on my scale of concern.

But it happens CONSTANTLY. Do garbage collectors encounter dogs? Do they shoot dogs that snarl at them?

On a happier note..

35 years for killing a police dog

I doubt if the scum bag will spend 1 year in jail.

I love dogs. I have a lab that follows me where ever I go while I'm on the property. He's rarely more than 5' away from me while I'm in the house. Having said that, I've been attacked by dogs that were ordered put down after they attacked a power meter reader later on. I've watched dogs go after my kids when they were little. I'm not passing judgment unless I know all the details. Some dogs deserve to be shot.

I agree. I've long advocated for the elimination of pit bulls from breeding. They account for a huge percentage of deaths and maiming by dog.

But of all the professions in the world that encounter dogs why do cops shoot them? I know a lot of cops. Many of them own dogs. They will tell me quite honestly that a lot of their fellow cops are idiots who over react when they see a dog.

They also admit that mandatory seat belt laws are a reason to stop and search for drugs. In a free society you don't endanger anyone but yourself by not wearing a seat belt.

BTW, there was a HUGE FIRE this morning at an apartment complex on my way back from Starbucks. I really wanted to stop and watch but it was too cold outside.

There were lots of cop cars but very few fire trucks. Flames shooting up over 50 feet in the air.

Can't wait to see the news report at 5. Airline Drive between Bossier City and Benton. Would be surprised if there were no fatalities.

Ok. I see your point.

ETA: Have you ever been attacked by a dog? By being attacked, I mean having a couple of dogs going for your throat?

Some owners deserve to have their dogs shot.

Don't automatically blame the cop for a dog shooting.

Must have been a lot of dogs in that apartment complex. Shooting them all would have taken too long.

Pobably not. A little poison on a hot dog will do the trick quite well.
The UPS man told me tht he tried to run over a dog in our neighbor hood. I know the dog that he was talking about. He is a Great Dane sized dog. Pretty harmless, just a damned nuisance, but he doesnt know that. He also mentioned that he had been bitten several times. I don't try to run over the particular dog but I don't slow down. The dog will intentionally walk in front of a car but is smart enough to move when threatened by a vehicle.

Obviously police stations are buying MRAPs to protect themselves from dogs.
