Had to be moved out of a small town near Frankfurt when she was young because of the bombing. Married an airman after the war and has lived in the USA for 70+ years. Raised four children, all with degrees, two are engineers electrical/civil.

"I remember when my father couldn't get a job. He was a civil engineer and until he joined the nazi party, he was unemployable"."The local party would march through the streets, complaining about adherence. They would block admittance to my mothers bakery.

"There was nothing that you could do"."Businesses were destroyed, unless you proscribed to the nazi rules.

For what it's worth.

Nazis made even the ditch diggers join the Nazi Party and pay dues otherwise you were unemployable and you and your family would starve. The Ausweis had to be carried around and shown to make sure you were a member in good standing. Scary stuff.
