Surely you are not insinuating, by posting this quote, that slavery was of inferior magnitude or consequence?

We can excoriate the Slave Power though by the standards of their day, because Slavery was being peacefully eradicated in the British Empire and even in Russia, but the American slavers wouldn't budge an inch and brought disaster down on the people of the South. They deserve our condemnation.

There is nothing in the historical record that backs this claim up. Yes, Grant did own a slave, but history tells us that he set him free in 1859. We have a copy of that slave's freedom papers as documented proof of this. The Grants absolutely, 100% did not own slaves during the Civil War.

Clearly the idea of a plane hitting the towers was a consideration going back before its construction.

Yes, it was. But one thing the engineers did not figure was the possibility of a jetliner crashing PURPOSEFULLY into the towers. They envisioned a jetliner hitting them while on final approach to JFK or some other airport in the tri-state area. They never thought they'd be hit by a plane, fully laden with fuel, traveling at speeds between 450-500 MPH.

The South brought their destruction down on themselves when they attacked the North who was superior in numbers, militarily and industry. had they not attacked the North there is no telling how long slavery would have been tolerated.

There were a lot of screaming "frick you, we'll never agree to that," arguments at the Constitutional Convention. How each state would be represented was the biggest hurdle. The Convention broke along the lines of large states vs. small states more than along which had slaves or not.

I never said he owned slaves during the Civil War. I said he owned slaves.

Someone should sit The Mob down and calmly educate them on American history, instill a lifetime of good citizenship in them, teach them about the social contract, give them a respect for Free Speech and intellectual honesty, and change their brain chemistry so they have the ability to hold competing ideas in their head at the same time without becoming strident and violent.

Somebody do that this afternoon.

From your own hands:

quote:

Julia Dent Grant came from a slave-owning family and was an apologist for slavery throughout her life and the Civil War. The Grants owned slaves that came from Julia's father and Grant himself was responsible for supervising them. These slaves were not freed until 1865 when Missouri officially abolished slavery

That implies he and his wife owned slaves during the Civil War. They did not.

Does she say the same about her Administration removing Sadaam Hussein Monuments/ Statues & his Baath Party after their ill advised war?

Or the American Denazification of Germany?
