(CNN) Investigators are struggling to build a federal murder case regarding fallen US Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, vexed by a lack of evidence that could prove someone caused his death as he defended the Capitol during last month's insurrection.
Authorities have reviewed video and photographs that show Sicknick engaging with rioters amid the siege but have yet to identify a moment in which he suffered his fatal injuries, law enforcement officials familiar with the matter said.
Soon after Sicknick died on January 7, prosecutors in Washington opened a federal murder investigation, dedicating a team inside the US attorney's office to build out a case, authorities have said.

Coroner noted no signs of physical trauma, phone call to his brother reported he had only said pepper sprayed twice, no mention of physical contact. COD is listed as stroke.
Once again the system way overcharging. In this type situation foolishly overcharging. Accusation of killing cop will ALWAYS be fought by the defense simply because the charge is so serious. Cop killing is never gonna be plead out pretrial even when murderer is found with a still smoking gun, covered in victims blood, holding a signed confession.

They claimed without any evidence he was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher. Sicknik himself made NO SUCH claim
His eldest brother, Ken Sicknick, told ProPublica in an interview published Jan. 8 that Sicknick had texted him on the night on Jan. 6 to tell him he had been pepper-sprayed but felt fine. There was no mention of any trauma.
He suffered a hemorrhagic stroke THE NEXT DAY, Jan 7th, while working at the office! He died that evening.
