Yeah, no thanks.

If you legitimately want the POTUS to control media access to him and limit it to friendly media sources, you're out of your mind.

I'm reasonably upbeat about Trump, but that is just insanity.

FRICK THAT! It will only take a couple a more times of doing this and he will have their attention. The media has been used to controlling the POTUS far too long.

Let the MFs eat cat shite for a while, then cake will taste much better to them.

How do you feel about transparency and government?

I bade a tearful "good-bye" to it during the Obama and Hillary years and I don't want Trump to bring it back. I want him to demonstrate the same level of transparency that we saw with Obama and Hillary.

Nah

I see the press as just as big of a problem as you guys do. Along with academia, they're my top targets. But in the hypos presented, where we ban the networks and CNN, I just don't see how that helps fix the problem. I don't want any limitations premised on viewpoints.

There are a lot of other ways Trump can break the mold in dealing with the press. But ultimately, the problem can't be fixed by what he does. It has to be fixed by what we do.

Maybe you're right.

But I believe in punishing your political enemies and rewarding your friends. CNN and others like CNN clearly demonstrated that they regard Trump as a dangerous political enemy that must be defeated by any means necessary.

Trump should treat them accordingly. If he makes nice with them, all they will do is use his sound-bites to smear him and undermine his Presidency. Trump would be a fool to make nice with CNN and other such networks.

Oh I'm not in favor of banning the press. He just does not have to tell them squat (unless they file FOIA of course). The President reports to Congress (State of the Union), not the Media. He can set the spin doctors and corrupt biased "narrators" in the back and off to the sides and ignore them in favor of other reporters and networks as much as he pleases.

Trump will give all of the news he wants...
...ON HIS NEW TV CHANNEL.
Wouldn't that be the biggest "You are irrelevant main stream news media"
If the media outlets want news they will have to go to his TV channel.

What kind of melt would we see?

I think you have to find a way to damage their credibility without shutting them out. I think it's a dangerous position to take (POTUS treating press as enemy), but I don't necessarily disagree that CNN has created that dynamic.

I'm all for going hard after the opposition. But the media can't be treated the same way as the opposing party, because a lot of the country won't recognize they're the opposition. Instead, it'll just damage your credibility and piss off fairer members of the press. I know Trump got here by not playing by the rules, but I just don't think it serves his agenda to handle it that way. I'm confident his administration can find was to undercut the press without shutting them down.

But again, for the record, I expect this was a logistical thing or some other transition issue, I don't think it'll be the norm.

Ideally, Trump would reward good journalists (regardless of whether they're particularly friendly to the administration) and "shut out" the bad ones. By shut out I'm talking about what you are I think -- no interviews, exclusives, floating stories, etc., not actually removing them from the pool.

And as far as I know, this is how it normally works.

CNN was just bitching that After Trump was done with his meetings just left and didn't tell reporters where he was going lol.

After watching about a half hour or so of CNN last night, I don't think they have any business in a press pool.

Well considering that trump is the boss I'd say him or one of his delegates. I'm available and well suited for that job if any of his people are reading this thread.
