Serious question because I don't know much about the history on this subject: Why don't we know which side China is on?

China is on NK's side, unless we made some secret deal to supply them with coal.

I'm not buying this, if the Chinese were concerned about a US attack on NOKO, the Chinese would have numerous PLA Divisions deployed on the frontier, not to mention a massive presence by the PLAN in the Yellow Sea. If there are 150000 PLA troops on the border it maybe to control a bum rush by NOKO refugees.

The upside is we don't get nuked. Remember NK exports technology and weapons to Iran and and others who would love to have one of their multiple terrorist proxies smuggle a nuke in to the US and have no one to really blame.

Exactly. NK and China have traditionally been allies, whereas the US is an economic and military rival. The movement of troops is likely because Trump has now proven to be unpredictable after the recent Syrian strike.

150,000 Chinese troops is like one small campfire gathering for them. One thing China has in its military that no one else has is an unlimited supply of soldiers. China may be taking over North Korea.

Any alternative is preferable to Kim Jong Un continuing as head of NK.

China takes NK? Ok... then what? The North Korean people no longer have to kill their children to eat?

I see very little downside.

Here's how I see this going down.

Trump offered Xi coal. And gas. Cheap. If he has to subsidize it to make this happen he will. That removes the only thing they have other than geography. I would not be surprised if Trump promised once this is settled we will pull out of Korea. Korea then becomes a major trade partner for them. Huge win for both sides.

I don't know where Taiwan and South China Sea come down. But with all the goodwill this would engender, I suspect we'll both be OK with the outcome.

And Putin will be quaking in his shirtless suit wondering what the hell went wrong with his plans for world domination.

There may be a middle east war, but it won't be "The big one" because he's going to have to watch his flank. And if that's how this all plays out, Trump is going to go down in world history as one of the greats.

Unfortunately, it never works out like you plan.

China is not our friend.

The plan since Nixon first ushered them in was for them to one day supplant us as the world's most powerful nation. By 2025 they will have surpassed us as all indications indicate already. What the hell does Trump have to bargain with?? China holds all the cards for the future. They think long-term as we can't think past what we are going to eat for dinner.

China and Russia are friends. They trade outside the dollar and trade military secrets and power. They plan on an Eurasian bloc that will supplant the NATO western hegemony. Russia will push for the balkanized states of the former soviet union like latvia to be apart of Russia again as they have done in Ukraine with Crimea.

I don't think China wants Kim around anymore than we do, but they aren't our friends whatsoever. If Trump thinks they can be 'dealed' he is dealing with an entirely different beast.

In WWII they were. Other than them growing and being communist; when did we become enemies?

Was this Nixon's plan? Serious question.

Nah. I think their economy is strong. But I don't believe any economist will tell you they have passed us up. I also believe they're government plays with their GDP data as well.

Seriously? Then why did they take concessions to avoid a trade war with us this past weekend while Trump was kicking his arse on the back 9?

Great. We do the same with other countries.

About time I ask for a link.

Trump took care of North Korea this past weekend whilst meeting with China, evidenced by China's deployment of 150 K troops to the border of North Korea.

Tell me again how Trump is all of a sudden Putin and China's bitch?

You seem very far outside of reality? Or just hate America.

China didn't deploy 150K troops to the border and if they did it wouldn't have been to help us. China, while maybe not an "enemy", is at the very least a geopolitical competitor. They aren't out to help us and we aren't out to help them and Trump isn't going to change that. Anyone who thinks so is a fool. China's goal is to become a superpower and their first step is to push us out of the region.

Yes they have.

By Hong Soon-do, Beijing correspondent, AsiaToday – The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is on the alert as the situation on the Korean peninsula is showing signs of unforeseeable tension.
