But much of the U.S. spending is paying for military operations overseas, such as the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
“U.S. forces … go halfway around the world to fight. And they fight in the other guy’s backyard, at times in places of the other guy’s choosing. And that’s the problem,” said David Ochmanek, senior defense researcher at the RAND Corporation.

The United States still outspends its rivals on the military, with a roughly $600 billion budget that is three times as much as Beijing and more than six times as much as Moscow.

As long as "small government conservatives" support spending more and more money on our bloated military budget, we will never solve our budget problem, even if every liberal is voted out of office.

Your funny gif doesn't change the fact that nobody wants to deal with our debt crisis except to kick the bucket further and further down the road.

Im constantly disturbed by this. Right wing people are ok with cutting health and human services but are willing to just throw money away to weapons developers and the military industrial complex.

Does this mean that Russia and China will waste billions of $$$$ on warships and fighter planes that don't work?

We must give US arms makers more money cause I'm scared now.

We could double the Dept. of Defense budget to a trillion dollars/year and it wouldn't matter as long as we have spineless politicians who won't unleash it.

The next big investment has to go into a next generation ship to ship missile. They can't rely on the Harpoon to get the job done. Naval projection is the #1 strength of the US followed by the strategic air assets.

Not sure but I imagine that they have enough funds to keep more than half to 2/3 of their fighter jets operational.Guess they actually have spare Parts
