Change the term "assault rifle" to "combat rifle"

Lets leave assault rifle to what it is..a selective fire rifle only for military use. I'd like to refer to AR 15s and similar rifles as combat rifles as that infers it to its true use.... protection against criminals and oppressive government. Rarely ever used to "assault" anyone.

Just makes a little more sense to me if we are going to categorize it into a common term

Or how about just "rifle" because that's what it is.

It is NOT a "combat" rifle.

I suggest:

"That thing that kills fewer Americans in a decade than food poisoning kills every year"

But, I really don't care what we call it and can support your motion

Have to disagree. The purpose of a rifle is defined by its users intent.

Well since it is mainly used for protection then you would be engaging in combat to protect yourself. To me it sends a more positive attribute than a negative one like "assault" does.

Combat rifle has no positive connotations over assault rife.

Combat is not protection. Defense might be considered protection.

Ar-15 are not commonly used in defense in a civil respect. Based on common use they would be called "plinker rifles"

Didn't consider this.

Defense rifle.

I'm just looking for a more positive term to try and spread instead of the liberals made up "assault" term.

Not a gun control advocate, but if the AR-15 is not an assault rifle, what does the "AR" stand for?

You're missing the point. I'm fully aware it should be this, but fact is many Americans don't associate it that way. When you say rifle, they think "deer rifle". When you say AR 15, they think Assualt Rifle, due to Liberal propaganda.

So why not start associating it with say "Defense rifle" to try and paint it as more of a positive and fight against its negative connotations that many have unjustifiably put on the rifle.

Local guy around here that sells them refers to them as PDRs. Personal Defense Rifles. I like that term a lot.
