Cato Institute's interesting take on "countering terrorism"

Cato Institute is traditionally a right leaning think tank, but their recent (as in past 24 hours) take on terrorism and corresponding tweets are interesting.
Countering Terrorism: Cato Institute
Main points:
GAO study on terrorism notes that 73% of terrorism incidents come from far right groups, compared to 27% from Islamic extremists.
Georgia State study determines that Muslim attacks get roughly 450% more coverage.
Also addresses "terrorist profile" concept.
Found it super interesting that the Cato Institute would be actively promoting these numbers.

quote:
Of the 85 violent extremist incidents that resulted in death since September 12, 2001, far right wing violent extremist groups were responsible for 62 (73 percent) while radical Islamist violent extremists were responsible for 23 (27 percent)
Georgia State study determines that Muslim attacks get roughly 450% more coverage.
quote:
We examined news coverage from LexisNexis Academic and CNN.com for all terrorist attacks in the United States between 2011 and 2015. Controlling for target type, fatalities, and being arrested, attacks by Muslim perpetrators received, on average, 449% more coverage than other attacks. Given the disproportionate quantity of news coverage for these attacks, it is no wonder that people are afraid of the Muslim terrorist. More representative media coverage could help to bring public perception of terrorism in line with reality.
Also addresses "terrorist profile" concept.

Both numbers are wrong
I would say the largest percentage of terrorist attacks are perpetrated neither by muslims nor the far right, but by CIA planned false flag operations

Cato Institute is traditionally a right leaning think tank,
Cato was a libertarian roman senator who represented casear's most strident opposition.

Cato is a full libertarian think tank

What do you consider "far right"?
What would you call the BLM arse hole that murder cops in dallas?
What would you call the brothers in the Boston bombing?
Is the "far left" exempt with any blood on their hands?

Only damned fool would believe that horseshite about Muslim extremists being responsible for 27% if terrorist attacks. That's complete bullshite propaganda.

Notes:
Fewer overall victims from "right wing" attacks
Right wing attacks continue to include anything under the sovereign citizen label, which is total bullshite
Right wing attacks include ANY violence committed by people involved in white supremacy gangs.
How in the frick are they including the Oregon college shooting as a right wing attack?

Libertarians are traditionally right leaning. That is just a fact. I know we have some self proclaimed ones here who like to think that isn't the case.

Coming from the GAO? I don't think so. It is one of, if not THE, most respected independent agency. Both sides of the aisle agree on that.

Would love a top to bottom audit of the GAO and all the other DC institutions.

Well the GAO's report is bullshite
It may be "violence by extremists" which I'd argue is different from terrorism. But trying to compare Islamic terrorism with white supremacist gang bangers killing a child molester or killing a guard in jail or killing a rival drug dealer is nonetheless moronic.
And again, some of the inclusions are insane. Oregon shooter?

They do.

Measurable benefits of GAO work total $49.9 billion, a return of $87 for every dollar invested; at the end of FY 2010, over 80% of the GAO recommendations made in FY 2006 had been implemented

Peer Review Every 3 years, independent organizations perform a peer review of GAO’s system of quality control for work done under generally accepted government auditing standards to determine whether it is suitably designed and operating effectively. The peer review includes a review of audit documentation, tests of functional areas, and staff interviews. The peer reviewers brief the Executive Committee, management, and staff members. Beginning with the 2010 peer review, an international team from supreme audit institutions performs the peer review of both performance and financial audits. Previously, the review of performance audits was conducted separately from the review of financial audits (an international certified public accounting firm conducted the peer review of financial audit engagements).
