A couple of those fines were for speeding, one was for failure to wear her seatbelt and most of the rest were for what defense attorneys in the St. Louis area have come to call “poverty violations” — driving with a suspended license, expired plates, expired registration and a failure to provide proof of insurance.

Here's a new flash for that arshole: I've paid about $500 in tickets, registration, and filing complaints for that shite this year alone. I live in one of the wealthiest zip codes in Chicago.

It isn't just black people experiencing these things. Chicago has a serious abuse problem of all colors with this sort of things...so the Left's solution is more government, right? Genius.

Abuses can be small and nearly impossible to discover, such as stopping a car full of black men without probable cause, or they can be large and public, such as unjustifiably gunning down an unarmed black teenager.
Where did that happen?

I'm so tired of that. He was 18, 6'6", 300 pounds. That's not a young teenager. That's a grown-assed man. period. I wouldn't fear an arse whooping if he was charging me, I would fear for my life, and it has nothing to do with the fact that he was black.

Both authors cited are either right-wing or libertarian.

Libertarians who don't believe in gov't brain washing???

NO@!!!!

YOU DON'T SAY!!!

Yes as long as inner city blacks are "taught" they can't succeed and that they really shouldn't try to conform to "white society", they will fail at it.

I know, I know.

Methinks that Big Scrub TX wouldn't be so kind to most of Balko's worldview and prescriptive solutions, though.

Go in with like force and kick these thugs arse.

With black police officers doing it..it, as in, upholding the law. Recruit black people when they leave the military if finding enough capable, qualified ones otherwise is too hard.

It's hard to stop that freight train at this point.

Among her prior traffic warrants:

quote:

Bolden hadn’t appeared in court because she didn’t have the money ... most of the rest were for what defense attorneys in the St. Louis area have come to call “poverty violations” ... expired plates, expired registration and a failure to provide proof of insurance.

Yet the article goes on to state:

quote:

Bolden is a single black woman with four kids. She has several tattoos.

She can afford kids without fathers and tats, but not to register her car or get minimum liability?

I think a cop should be able to shoot a violent thug any time said thug charges and strikes the officer.

Hell, it should be law.

Wow. Your reference to the scene in Liar Liar is exactly what I told my golf partner today when discussing Ferguson.

Great movie based on an episode of Twilight Zone back in the 60s. But then it was a used car salesmen instead of a lawyer.
