They are smart enough to come into residential areas and destroy proprty and get mowed down by cars.
See if someone is killing them because they say they are a nuisance I can buy that. But to say they kill them cause they will starve to death doesn't quite pass the smell test.

Yo have lived a very much deprived life if you have only fished once. The camaraderie that is provided by friends and family out on the water is a very enjoyable manner of spending time in your life. Fresh fish staring back at you at the table after cooking it yourself is a good boost to your ego too.
ETA I spoke the other day about missing the joys of fishing with my father when he died, some of the things that occurred were just funny as hell to a child. Catching about five hundred pounds of blue crabs in a trawling net in search or shrimp was one such event. The net held crabs, tires, and army cot thrown into Caminada Bay during Betsy, sting rays, and exactly one big assed shrimp. There was a sign put up by the highway that said free crabs and the people came to relieve us of what couldn't be consumed at the camp.

quote:My parents have a lake house in a large gated community. Hunting is not allowed. Fish and Wildlife has to come in and trap the deer and relocate them to prevent overpopulation and disease.
My sister lives in a gated development(a very big one) in Arkansas and the deer population spikes when hunting season starts as they jump the fences to avoid the hunters. Taking a walk after dark when that occurs the eyes of deer are like headlights in the woods and they are everywhere.

very minimal. I am in sales in the oilfield so every now and then I will go along with for a deer or duck hunt. Duck hunting is actually kinda fun but deer hunting is soooo boring.
FYI- I've shot my fair share of ducks but no deer. I haven't shot them out of any moral reason or anything like that. I don't mind killing them because I eat the meat. But I also don't go around saying I am killing them to help them.
Kill=Help
Please don't offer me any "help" if that's the case

Hunters and sportsmen love animals and nature and we try to preserve it. Hunting helps keep animal populations in check and keep them from starving. Also you have to respect an animal (that 10 pt this year) that you battle everyday to see who can out smart who.
Plus they taste extremely good wrapped in bacon.

Compare deer in open wild vs. overpopulated areas. More disease more starvation and more wrecks because deer are reckless in their pursuit of water and food.
I'm not saying if you haven't been around that environment you're not entitled to an opinion because we all are but it's fairly ignorant of the facts presented by Parks and Wildlife organizations around the country. To think that hunting doesn't make better environments is such.

There are plenty of issues that can arise from over population and there are plenty of environments that have scarce food supplies, but let's not pretend like that's the norm and act like we are throwing them a bone. We do it because its entertaining and the food they provide. If not, why would we be sitting in a tiny stand by ourselves freezing our arse off? This doesn't mean that you can't love animals and still eat them

quote:Well I don't consider a state managing the popultion of said species as throwing them a bone. It is in fact a smart and logical way to ensure a healthy balance and protect the environment.

Seriously? It doesn't take much intelligence to figure this one out. Maintaining a healthy balance is practical, and if animals are starving due to overpopulation, thinning them out helps keep the remaining ones healthy.
Would you rather live in a land with 1 million people that had enough resources and lived fullfilling lives, or would you rather live in a world that had 50 billion, and no one had enough resources to be healthy?

But hunters enjoy hunting.
I can understand if it is a necessity to thin out an animal population.
But if you love the animals, how can one get enjoyment out of killing them?
Do hunters actually love the animals, or do they love hunting the animals?

I dislike killing them, but like to hunt and eat them.
I don't know how to get from hunt to eat without the kill.

The overwhelming majority of the time, my hunts are conducted with a camera, not a firearm. I use a firearm or fishing rod to fill a freezer.

The development is almost totally woods so I don't think over population will be a problem for it. The front gate and the back gate are at least ten miles apart, it has five or six man made dams and reservoirs.

I do not like turkeys. I like donating money to the NWTF to help their habitat. I spend money all year long feeding them wheat and planting new habitat for them. I try to rid my property of predators to keep them safe. But, for some reason, every spring rolls around and I get MAD at them. My spare time in the spring is spent in the woods being mad at turkeys.
