Not satire

quote:

Thousands of Californians are fleeing to Mexico amid the soaring cost of living in the golden state. Americans taking advantage of work from home are reaping the benefits of US salaries, while living off Mexico's cheaper lifestyle. Others are living in Mexico, while commuting to work in the US. But critics have argued that the influx of Americans in cities south of the border has begun to price out local Mexicans.

quote:

Suddenly the cost of taxes, the crime rates, the politics, all the things that people are unhappy with in California are are coming down to Mexico. Travis Grossi, a content creator who moved to Mexico in 2020, paid $1,600 a month for a one-bedroom apartment in Hollywood, while in Mexico his rent became $850 per-month for two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a shared pool, and 24-hours a day security.

quote:

Though the life is good for California ex-pats living in Mexico, the trend has begun a process of gentrification that is pricing out local Mexican citizens who aren't paid in US dollars. 'Certain neighborhoods are now becoming too expensive for Mexican citizens to live in because most of the time people that are actually buying the property developments are being able to do so because they either make money in US dollars, or because they are working remotely,' said Ariel Ruiz Soto, a policy analyst at the Migration Policy institute.

Mexico is now a safer, cheaper and more attractive place to live than California.

Looks like Mexico might end up paying to build the wall after all

Yep. It’s just what Californians are doing to us here in the south, too.

I’m actually considering getting a remote job and traveling as a digital nomad. I’m young and single with no kids. Who knows?

So there are entire neighborhoods full of the weakest rich gringo’s. The ones that dont like guns.

Are they paying the cartels protection money or something? This seems like they’re making neighborhood size targets

Just complete lack of fricking awareness.

They send over hoards of fricking illegals - no problem. Just take it.

We send over LEGAL Americans, who actually have money - ColINizaTIon. We PRICED OUT the locals !!!

Have a friend in Orange County that bought a small place in Mexico in 2006 as a vacation home that is right on the Pacific. It is a 2:20 hour drive door to door right off Mexico 1D. He said they never planned on moving there but now it is most likely what will happen within five years. The COL in California is getting to the breaking point for him, his last kid gets out of the house in two years and his family owned 4th generation company is going to move to Arizona. Changed his mind when a hospital was built a few miles away with a ownership from US.

If that were the case, great. However, liberal douchebags are flooding in too.

They move to the coastline of Baja. It’s beautiful there. That’s not a bad thing to me.

It was an ironic sight-gag in the disaster movie The Day After Tomorrow that showed Americans fleeing into Mexico.

Now, unfortunately, life is imitating art.

Because they are not conservatives.

The west coast of Mexixo is amazing and not yet ruined by cheesy American tourists. Puerta Vallarta is more fun and safer than most American cities.

When I think back on the 8 total times I've been to Hawaii and Puerta Vallarta / Punta de Mita the memories all blend together. They are indistinguishable if you have 4 star or better accommodations.

I actually think the thrill of being Americans in a Mexican resort hotel makes people more willing to make friends and go adventuring together. The same would almost be true of the ex-pat community and would be a fun perk.
