This may be one of the few cases where those left-coast nutbags have a valid point.

But if they decide to secede, good luck getting FedGov to pay the bill!

The most disturbing part of this story..........

"Nearly half of the land in California is Federally owned."

So Obama, obviously, but the headlines will read ,"Trump refuses to help in massive California wildfire that threatens all of humanity. Russians suspected of starting fire."

Maybe the fire should burn. It's probably the natural order of such things anyway.

The founders would be amazed at that. Just amazing.

The fed shouldn't own shite. Even the White House is supposed to be the 'people's house'.

We are lost as a country. Hopefully 16 years of Trump/Pence can stem the tide of stupidity

In all honesty, it is.

We humans enjoy working against nature though.

Trump should say, "Sure, the money will be there when we get the voting roles".

I will grant that since that is one of their stated purposes.

100% agree

Fire does a lot of good for the ecosystem... it unlocks key nutrients in old, decayed vegetation and replenishes the soil... it clears way for greater biodiversity, and frees indigenous plants from invasive species

All in all, it's a good thing... that's why our forest service does it regularly... it's a natural part of life as you stated

Why? They wrote the following in the Constitution:

"The Congress shall have power to dispose of and make all needful Rules and Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to Prejudice any Claims of the United States, or of any particular State"

you'd probably think differently if your house was in the path.

Forest Service has a lot of programs that assist state and local resources in fighting these. The system works pretty well overall. I think their main goal is to protect private property. Sometimes the gov does do some good things.

Many of California's ecosystems are naturally fire maintained. However, fires have become increasingly intense and widespread...outside the normal range of variability...due to poor management, long term fire suppression (thanks Smokey), and, yes, climate change.
