Here they go again! In keeping with their increased focus on the rights of criminals vs. the suffering of victims, CA may no longer require bail, may release accused offenders based on their 'risk to public safety,' and will set bail based on the defendant's income. Is there any doubt whatsoever on whose side the crazies in CA stand? When is that vote for secession set?

Let CA (not me) fall into the Ocean after all the normal people are warned to leave.

To be fair, bail should always be focused on

'risk to public safety

If released.

The rest, not so much.

What about victims' rights?!?! And yes, states' rights. I hope they take their right to secede and get the heck out of the Union. Quickly! And permanently!

There's pilot programs all across the country that show bail reform actually increases court appearances and lower recidivism rates.

There's several logarithms that take data from defendants and recommends release or bail based on 10-20 factors.

Many people can't afford bail and then take bad deals just to get out. It's really a major issue.

Why are you against bail reform?

Because I'm FOR victims' rights and against criminals. If they can't afford bail, they shouldn't commit crimes. No bail, they can sit their a-- in jail until it's time for a trial. Simple!

I'd agree with this. Or often they give up their rights to fight bs money grab property siezures through asset forfeiture. This is not what our founders intended.

A sliding scale for bail based on economic income is not equal protection.

I've never seen you post here, so I'll try and be nice here...

Do you think people are innocent until proven guilty in this country? By proven guilty I mean either pleading guilty or convicted.

This has nothing to do with the original post or the content of the article. If you'll actually read the article it MAY just strike you that CA thinks nothing of the victims and is all about what the poor little criminals can afford, etc. And yes, I post here when there's something worth posting about! Hi!

Bail is a tool to ensure people show up for court. NOTHING MORE. it should never be used as a punitive measure, so "victim's rights" are irrelevant, especially since the accused is innocent UNTIL proven guilty

Hi!

Ok... But you said if they can't pay for bail, they shouldn't commit crimes.

Do you think that by simply being arrested they are guilty of anything?

Um, bail is pre-trial. They're not criminals until after they've been proven guilty in court in the American system...

Do you think bail rates deter people from committing crime?

It should be based off the minimum wage of the state. A free gov shouldnt be able to set million dollar bails.
