Impeachment is performed by the House
It is not a removal of office until a conviction is reached in the Senate

Richard Nixon knew how to count votes. After the smoking gun tape came out he had about 15 Senators not willing to convict in the Senate. It was a fait accompli.

Odd that Johnson was a Democrat when Lincoln was a Republican. He was impeached because he was not hard enough on the south. I can't say he was a bad person unlike Clinton. Johnson was only impeached because the Republicans in Congress were assholes.

Except Nixon did not admit wrongdoing. He only resigned because he was going to be impeached.
He didn't accept responsibility for anything.
