Stanley Black & Decker said Thursday that it would open a new $35 million manufacturing plant in the U.S. after acquiring the Craftsman tool brand from ailing retailer Sears Holdings.

About a half century ago, the Craftsman brand was primarily made in America. Today it's largely made overseas, Loree said.

"We believe this is an excellent opportunity to re-Americanize and revitalize this legendary brand," he told investors.

In addition to the threat of trade policies that could damage imports, manufacturing products in the U.S. to sell to American consumers reduces logistics and distribution costs and lowers the company's environmental footprint, Loree said.

"It makes good business sense for us," he said.

Just the prospect of lower taxes and reduced regulation is spurring more business. It's going to really MAGA when taxes and regulations are actually reduced.

That doesn't sound like much of a plant.

Why not just give Black & Decker credit?

They're entry level or DIY'er level tools but more importantly will now provide U.S. jobs so workers can get some festool goodies

I have a feeling that people will have the same attitude that permeated America when Reagan was president. Good times!

I will but some politician will claim credit. They claim credit when the sun rises. So will it fall under Obama or Trump?

Stanley Black & Decker has about 3,000 U.S. manufacturing jobs today, up 800 from three years ago, according to the toolmaker. It was not immediately clear how many jobs the company plans to add.

Obama won't brag about it in twitter though

Well when you build the plant with you own tools, you can save that kind of cheese.

I would love to be a fly on the wall every time Obama hears about the latest company bringing manufacturing back to the States. You just know he is full of rage.

Well that's an ironic position to take given that Black & Decker is likely making this decision in anticipation of Trump's protectionist, anti-free market trade policies.
