NBC host Megyn Kelly issued an on-air apology Wednesday after she defended white people who wear blackface while discussing Halloween costumes on her show a day earlier.

“I want to begin with two words: I’m sorry,” Kelly said at the start of “Megyn Kelly Today” on Wednesday. “You may have heard yesterday that we had a discussion here. ... I defended the idea that as long as it was respectable and part of the Halloween costume, it seemed OK. Well, I was wrong and I am sorry.”

On-Air? Well, that means at least 60 people heard it.

Dressing up like a black person, including makeup is not "Blackface" - "Blackface" was a minstrel and vaudeville tradition that was associated with the negative stereotyping of black folks from a white supremacist standpoint. It remains culturally significant (Al Jolson, among others), but certainly anachronistic and would be considered highly offensive.

However, if I wanted to dress up as Malcolm X for Halloween and that included modern theater/film quality makeup to make my skin appear correct for the character (in other words a proper covering of the appropriate shade of chocolate, NOT dark black makeup with big white/red circles around the mouth, blackface-style), then not only should that be okay, that is okay in my book and frick anyone who thinks differently.

This is common fricking sense.

Regardless of how you feel about Megyn Kelly , it's pathetic that people have to apologize for comments that aren't even insulting except to pussies who are looking to be insulted.

To take on a topic that was going to be incendiary was stupid to begin with. It doesn't matter if she was right or wrong, she should have never took on the the subject. Any white person discussing anything remotely "black" is walking into a hornets nest. It is literally a no-win scenario and she new that.

We live in times of hyper-sensitivity about everything and there are people out there looking to be "offended" for the sole purpose of having something to bitch and protest about.

I have to believe Megyn Kelly did this on purpose to get her arse fired or she really is that stupid....

So, basically she was told: Apologize or be fired?
