In eight states and Washington D.C., adults can legally consume marijuana—and that could soon change to adults in all 50 states. Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) recently introduced a bill that would make marijuana federally legal and allow the plant to be regulated as alcohol is in the U.S.

Under the new bill, called the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act, the plant would be removed from its Schedule I listing on the Controlled Substances List and would be regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Adults 21 and up would be able to purchase and consume cannabis legally across the nation. Advertising rules similar to those regarding alcohol would also apply to marijuana under the bill.

Now THIS is what I call MAGA.

I'm not optimistic about the chances, but if they pass this, get me a coat.

If the Republicans were smart, they'd sign this bill, champion it as a bipartisan effort, scoop up a bunch of votes from thankful people, and just once do what's best for the country rather than what's best for their Lobbyist over lords

Well, so much for that. They could screw up a two-car parade. They're the Falcons of politics.

This will happen eventually. Might as well do it now and start taxing it and bring in new revenue.

If the republicans fight this, they will lose votes. Time for everybody to get on board.

I'd be shocked if this gets even close to being passed, the lobbies against it are too strong.

However, marijuana definitely needs to lose its Schedule 1 status. There is some definite medical benefit and there needs to be more research into further medical uses.

As for medical use of the plant, the bills call for the Department of Veterans Affairs to make recommendations on how cannabis should be used as treatment.

Why the VA?

Better than nothing. I still dislike giving the ATF more power as they are one of the worst agencies in existence.

Yeah, sure.

I'm ambivalent on this issue. I think it would go a long way towards maybe securing some support for republicans at the booth from previously unlined sources.

It really is. They should just let private businesses do what they want when it comes to bathroom policy.
