Of course they are, and they have a right to do it. That doesn't mean it's ethical or benefits the public, but they have a service to provide that they make money on, so they're free to do whatever they deem to be in the best interest of their organization.

All we have to do is have Medicare and VA have a preference for USA made and a stricter cap on non-USA made. Also, simple enough to throw a little tax credit for the PBMs who prefer or buy American made pharmaceuticals.
That is simple enough - it won't be cheap, per se, but definitely better than fighting with those folks.
Obviously, Trump can go the tariff route on the other end.

I posted on her immediately after this "Decouple from China" movement was mentioned on this board: there will be vicious court fights and other resistance on every front to prevent de-coupling from China because there is WAY to many billions of dollars at stake for the Globalists to go down without a fight.

Medicare, Medicaid, VA, FHA, DOD, USDA, and every other alphabet agency should be MANDATED that they can only purchase made in the USA goods and services, end of story.

It’s a national security concern. If all our eggs are in China’s basket because they are the cheapest then we deserve our fate when a global catastrophe occurs.
In a perfect world, perfect free trade is the best option. Unfortunately I would not call dealing with a communist government where you have to give up intellectual property rights “free trade.”

No issues with free trade but FedGov should only purchase from those that pay US taxes and employ Americans.

They should just change the laws on how quickly medications can go generic. It usually takes 20 years for a drug to go generic after getting FDA approval. Change it so all of these things remove 5 years from that timeline:
• less than 50% of medication produced in USA
• 60%+ of final medication comes from a single source counrty
• 100% of final medication comes from a single source country
That would prioritize both made in USA and a diversified supply chain. If a country decides to have all finished pills come from China(or any other single country) then their patent is only guaranteed against competition from generics for 5 years.

That's a really bad idea. Even if they win they will lose because the next step is we will place massive tariffs on their products and force them to bring it back home.
