wow. the dream of homeownership is dead, people are drowning in debt, and emptying their retirement accounts to survive in Biden's America.

Saw something this morning (maybe on local news) about doom spending and how Americans are spending on comfort items because we know there's no way we'll ever pay off the shite or save for anything substantial.

My retirement plan is to just die

There is an entire bit on The Simpsons where Chief Wiggum talks about how his retirement plan is to get killed on the last day on the job to provide for his family, which is known in police work as “retirony.”

Why do people need a 401k hardship withdrawal if everything is going awesome?

If all of those evil businesses out there would just lower their prices everything would be okay. Capitalism is going to kill us!

By then, contributions to SS will be increased 20%, SS will remain in surplus, and nimrods who view SS as a "retirement benefit" will praise "bipartisan" politicians for "saving" the program into perpetuity.

I can believe it.

I know it’s just my personal experience, but each year around October I review and sign off on audits of benefit plans for about 10 companies. Part of that includes an analytics review. There was a huge pop on hardship distributions across the board.
