"Today, with the city poised for even more progress, there is no question that Mitch has earned a second term as mayor - and I hope the people of New Orleans will give him one," Obama said in a written statement that also included Landrieu's grateful response.

More reason for me to vote for Bagneris.

Bagneris.
Can you link or post some bullet points on this candidate?

I'm not exactly thrilled having a career politician in the mayoral seat, and not sure if he should get much credit for it all, but there has been a lot of progress in the city over the last few years with him running the show.

I actually like him a lot.

In a vacuum, I'd pick him over Mitch every time. I would like to have seen if he had been Nagin instead of Nagin.

A Landrieu and Obama teaming up for for liberal political purposes?

I'm……..…totally stunned.

So you think Bagneris, who worked in the Dutch Morial administration, is more conservative than Landrieu?

Had Obama endorsed Bagneris, you'd be saying "Obama teaming up with a black candidate.... Totally stunned".

Correct. It's an all but meaningless word with regard to New Orleans city politics.

Mitch has $2 million. Bagneris has $200k. The election is 7 weeks away. It won't be close.

My guess is Bagneris is still butthurt about Obama rejecting Mary's recommendation for a federal judgeship for him and somehow blames Mitch. Just a guess but how else to explain this really stupid move. Unless the man is really stupid.

Don't confuse my points here with thinking I'm arguing he's got a legit shot. I don't think he does.

Ditto, who else would he support in the race? He is just so afraid of little Marys legislation over keeping his promises which is her commercials hoodwinking for her seat.

You've never come across as a neophyte to politics to me. I didn't think you did.

Didn't Bagneris run for a bunch of offices before then finally won the judgeship? This is just odd. It has to be in some way connected to his rejection for the federal judgeship. Or the man just doesn't mind losing.

Some people just make a career of being candidates for office. I can think of at least one right here in BR just off the top of my head.

Other than his sister, I really don't have a problem with Mitch.

....And yet it was you, another supposedly color-blind liberal, who chose to throw the race card, by projecting it upon somebody else who hadn't mentioned race. Totally stunned.

You have no idea how much progress has been made. I had a bit of an inside view when Mitch's crew took over and the steaming pile of crap they were handed would make you cry.

Under the last year or two of Nagin none of the other city agencies got hardly any direction from the Mayor's office. Not Sanitation, not Police, nada. This set up a situation where each agency was being run like it was its own entity (because, essentially, it was).

Not only have they had to knock down all of those walls, but they've also had to look at neglected systems (the "computerized payroll system" was from the 1970's) as well as many other things. And they did this walking into a city that was already $40 million in debt for the fiscal year that had started not long before.

I'm not for having Mitch in the Governor's mansion at all, but I still say if anyone can fix New Orleans it's Mitch Landrieu (just look at how far it's already come).

I'm with you 100% Bard... It would be nice to get a fiscal conservative in city hall but it isn't happening.... I'm only 31 but havent seen the city so vibrant and haven't been more optimistic my entire life. I say let Mitch finish the job he is doing
