Fine by me!

the governemnt doesn't have your money. They already spent it. You can have some IOUs though if you want.

nope. it stops being your money the day the government takes it.

So your official stance is that SS contributions don't constitute an earned benefit once you hit full retirement age?

Just please give me all the money I paid into SS and I am good.

Exactly, I'm not asking that government take care of me but if that's the case, then they should pay me back whatever I paid into it and I'll be on my way.

Considering I won't ever see a cent of that money, no they don't.

Sure, if you have your own media empire. What about the workaday joes who are counting the days until retirement from their shitty factory jobs? Their 'purpose in life' tends to be family and hobbies.

Shapiro just wants that money to be free to give to Israel. He's crunched the numbers and found that we can't have retirement funds and still fund his holy of holies.

1. Raise the retirement age.
2. Raise the maximum taxable wage.
3. Means test.

Fixed.

Social Security should be seen as what it was originally designed as, a retirement insurance plan. It was never intended to simply be an IRA run by the federal government.

Yes, it really depends on your plans and activities for retirement. My brother and I are retired.
I knew that I was going to fill my time with gym, gardening, golf, reading, cooking, cleaning, playing with dogs. I love being retired.
He worked a few years longer because he had no activities other than watching T.V. Now his health is declining fast.

They killed the family unit, so this one is going to leave a mark when it finally collapses

Did they have something to keep them busy or did they lay around on their asses? My guess is that they found something purposeful to occupy their time, even if it wasn't for pay. If not, they must have won the genetic lottery.

And for the purposes of this discussion it seems a bit irrelevant no?

By the time I am eligible, the age will be 90.

Step dad and my mom traveled a lot by motorhome with their dogs, and he also volunteered a lot at Auburn with their engineering programs, using his vast connections in the aerospace and defense contracting days to help raise money for projects and stuff like that. He did come from a genetic long life family. His mother lived to 103.

My dad of course worked till 80 but was an active runner and weightlifter. Parkinson's kicked in about 82 and was bedridden for the last 2.5 years, but he was born with the stubborn lottery. LOL

Social Security was always meant as a safety net, not a retirement plan.

It was never meant for a healthy 62-year-old to retire and soak up payments for 30-plus years.

Frankly, I think he's talking straight outta his arse. A better solution is, the federal government stop spending OUR taxes on stupid shite, revamp Social Security, and NOT raise the retirement age!!!!
How bout dat?
Ben's fingernails stay clean and he's never done a day of hard work.

If construction workers, truck drivers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, linesmen, nurses, people who actually make this country go round, stopped working...
This country would come to a screeching halt. Ben adds no real value to life. This country would never skip a beat if many white collar jobs suddenly disappeared.

Different story if suddenly there were no one to maintain electrical lines, or plumbers, or carpenters...
You get what I'm saying. There are way more of us than them.

I plan under the assumption that I will not see a single cent of it, which seems likely.
