I wish it were higher and the amount of money it kicks in at were much lower, but at least it is a start.

There are so many ways to not show that much income, even if you are making that much.

I doubt any SEC coaches would even be subject to that after deductions and write-offs.

Say what you want about Bannon, but I truly believe he's actually interested in helping regular American citizens.

I disagree with it completely but if forced to negotiate to balance the budget I would probably do the same thing. I don't know why our income tax stops being progressive at such a low number.

That is insane. Why should anyone be forced to give that much to the government? After all other taxes that person will probably be paying close to 55 or 60% of their income to the government.

You could also make the argument that those rich people are the ones who really stimulate and help the economy grow and the money is much better off in their hands than our proven to be corrupt government.

44% is nothing.

It's still amazing that the top rate for regular income was 91% for regular income and was accepted for a decade...and then suddenly not accepted after the 50's-60's.

Then 70% in the 70's.

Then 50% under Reagan...

And then dropped to nothing 28% in 1988...

Is 40% some magical number? It hovers around 39% the last 30 years.

And has never been above 40% again.

Well that has been the left's argument for quite some time. Problem is that if they really want to address the deficit and debt via income taxes, then the only income group that would make a feasible dent is the middle class. That's not a practical solution nor politically doable.

Maybe I'm just poor, but $400+ thousand is not seem low in any sense.

I am supportive of 90% of Bannon's ideas, but this one is not good. It just encourages more elaborate accounting and I don't imagine revenues would change much at all. Very, very few people make that kind of money from taxable income.
