The Arizona Supreme Court's decision on Tuesday to uphold a near-total abortion ban predating Arizona's statehood has drawn differing reactions from state Republicans who previously claimed to be "100% pro-life" while both local and national Democrats vowed to push to protect abortion access in one of the most politically important states on the 2024 map.

Vice President Kamala Harris is planning to travel to Tucson on Friday for her "Fight for Reproductive Freedoms," where she's expected to continue to squarely blame former President Donald Trump for appointing three of the justices who voted in 2022 to overrule Roe v. Wade's national guarantees to abortion access.

quote:

Since then, efforts to either protect or expand abortion rights have succeeded in both red and blue states around the country when put up directly for a vote.

"Arizona just rolled back the clock to a time before women could vote – and, by his own admission, there's one person responsible: Donald Trump," Harris said in a statement on Tuesday.

She argued Trump would sign a federal abortion ban if elected again and "if he has the opportunity," though Trump this week put out a new statement insisting that he wants to leave the choice to individual states -- without specifying what he would do on a national ban.

President Joe Biden, in a statement through the White House, also blasted the Arizona ban, which only has exceptions to save the life of the pregnant woman. Biden called the restrictions "cruel" and the "result of the extreme agenda of Republican elected officials who are committed to ripping away women's freedom."

The ban is temporarily blocked pending a trial court decision. Anyone found guilty of violating the ban will face two to five years in state prison.

Republicans, meanwhile, appear to be walking a tightrope on the issue.

Apparently people (ie women) prefer to be sluts and murders and love that more than censorship and high prices in this county.

I just don't see Trump overcoming himself - the media and the courts.

Get ready for 4 more years of Obama and communism

How else can middle-aged white housewives frick the poolboy bareback and make sure their husbands never find out if they can't have abortions?

Simple. Run ads having Tump and other republicans running for federal office say "If you want abortion contact your state legislature. It is a state issue not a federal one."

What am I missing here. The top 3 issues voters care about DWARF abortion.

Look I admire the Dems for finding ways to get out the vote, but they are bleeding votes elsewhere and if abortion was issue #1 Biden would be ahead in the polling. Real world pain economic pain is going to GOTV and a level much higher than abortion.

That's literally what they're going to do in AZ

This will hurt Trump, bigly.

*When abortion isn't being pushed as a big issue.

We saw the same indicators in 2022, but abortion turned the Red Tsunami into a red puddle splash

This ^^^

The election is 6 months away. This is a Hail Mary by the Dems thinking it’ll be a repeat of ‘22. It won’t. There’s still discussions to be had about inflation, the border, and an unstable foreign policy.

The only people that care about abortion are people that want to murder.

Aka...the Dem party.

If abortion is your #1 issue then you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

The issue with 2022 for Republicans, is they literally ran on nothing. It was a last failing attempt by the GOPe to keep control. If you go back and look at past mid-year elections, there is usually some sort of push back against the party in the white house - 2006: the war, 2010: Obamacare, etc...

So, the Republicans ran on "Biden Bad" but didn't give any specifics as to how they would make anything better. I voted, but I cannot say I felt any great urgency to.

The reason Trump is gaining Blacks and Hispanics is because they clearly know they were better off under Trump.

They literally ran on the 3 issues posted above: jobs/economy, immigration, and inflation.

It's the same playbook in 2024, with abortion lurking in the crowd like Stone Cold Steve Austin just waiting to throw out some stunners out of nowhere
