Are Canadian and American drugs identical?

I really would like the answer, and do not want to hijack someone else's topic.
Are Canada' s drugs cheaper for the same prescription? If so, how do they accomplish this. Can we replicate these results so that importation is unnecessary?

Canadian government price fixes meds.

Well, one thing I can tell you for certain is that Viagra is dirt cheap. Pfizer screwed up the patent application and generics are already on the market. All you need is your US prescription and you can walk into any pharmacy and load up for a fraction of the US price.
So, there's that.
So, there's that.

I don't know but someone said they weren't and Canada allows inferior drugs from other countries. I cringe for Canada when I read about all the deaths from their cheap drugs. If only they had our FDA to tell them which drugs are safe!

Often yes.

They have government-run healthcare.

Not likely. We could have government-run healthcare. But our expectations of our health systems and healthcare are drastically different from Canadians. So our demand is higher across the board for healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Some percentage savings on pharma could be achieved.

I doubt someone said this. You ever order drugs from a Canadian pharmacy?

My apologies. I should have said "shady manufacturer" not countries.

It seems that this amendment would have contradicted the Code of Federal Regulations. The FDA has strict guidelines on import and export of drugs, and it is important to follow these guidelines to ensure drug safety. Potentially, Canada gets drugs from shady manufacturer, US imports those drugs without following good practices, and US citizens die.

Our healthcare is private, hence the high prices, hence the high healthcare plans, hence guys like me opting out of the system
Bernie could have saved us all

No. Canadian drugs are nicer, and very apologetic.

That's not really the issue either.

Well, it's technically both private and public
Point stands

quote:I could be way off with this assessment but I think the higher price point in the US has to do with FDA approvals and insurance. If Canada tells Drug Company A they will not pay $100 per pill but will pay $75, what option does the Drug Company have?
Are Canada' s drugs cheaper for the same prescription? If so, how do they accomplish this.
Drug Company A then sells to Canada for $75 and then tries to charge US insurance companies $125 per pill to make up the difference.
ETA: I also think the wealth of the US population in general is exploited by big pharmacy and medical treatments in general. Also, BIG LAW plays a big part of increased medical costs because of medical malpractice suits.

I should have made it more obvious in my initial reply to op that I was being a bit facetious. I thought it was pretty clear though.

I've been waiting for this topic to make an appearance on this board. I'd like to see the some explanations on why this amendment was voted against. Other than the obvious of big pham paying off members of Congress.

Because it was a stupid amendment geared to make people who don't know anything about the issue think "my God, how could they!!!?!!!!"
Why haven't we had a discussion on Canadian reimportation for 8 years?
