In case you all did not watch the video, this is a ruse employed to elicit quicker and more help for the coastal erosion land loss issue in South Louisiana.
Hilarious tangents nonetheless...

I dont know where you at but the accents are still very much there in the south Louisiana area
I was there last month. Were you there 60 years ago to make a comparison?

Half of my HS friends moved away and lost their accents. Half of them remained in south La. and still have theirs.
Grew up in south Lafourche then went to school and lived in north Louisiana for 6 years. People up there think I have an accent and when I go home to visit the family people ask where I'm from.

Poor white guys on this board have it so bad....
They had someone on the OT the other day triggered over an Exxon commercial not showing any white guys working in their plant and how the plant Baws risk their lives daily working as an operator

Kinda relevant to this thread:
I just listened to a clip from an audio interview w/ NO jazz musician Jelly Roll Morton from 1938. While discussing his Creole ancestry (he claims his family has been in NO since before the Purchase) we hear him pronounce the name of the city. But he doesn't say "New Orluhns" or "N'awlins", but rather "New Uh-leenz". The first syllable off the 2nd word is so understressed that it's almost inaudible.
Just thought that was curious

Had never heard of this language before today. In 1860 it was spoken by 39% of France. There are about 1.5M speakers today:

Occitan, also known as lenga d'òc by its native speakers, is a Romance language. It is spoken in southern France, Italy's Occitan Valleys, Monaco, and Spain's Val d'Aran; collectively, these regions are sometimes referred to as Occitania. Occitan is also spoken in the linguistic enclave of Guardia Piemontese (Calabria, Italy). However, there is controversy about the unity of the language, as some think that Occitan is a macrolanguage. Others include Catalan in this family, as the distance between this language and some Occitan dialects (such as the Gascon language) is similar to the distance among different Occitan dialects. In fact, Catalan was considered an Occitan dialect until the end of the 19th century.
Today, Occitan is an official language in Catalonia, where a subdialect of Gascon known as Aranese is spoken in the Val d'Aran. Occitan's closest relative is Catalan. Since September 2010, the Parliament of Catalonia has considered Aranese Occitan to be the officially preferred language for use in the Val d'Aran.
quote:
The long-term survival of Occitan is in grave doubt. According to the UNESCO Red Book of Endangered Languages, four of the six major dialects of Occitan (Provençal, Auvergnat, Limousin and Languedocien) are considered severely endangered, whereas the remaining two (Gascon and Vivaro-Alpine) are considered definitely endangered.

Turning this thread into the Endangered Language dept
quote:
The official guardians of the French tongue the Académie Française sounded the alarm bell this week saying the language was in “mortal danger”. And it’s nothing to do with English this time.
quote:
The immortals are furious about the rise of so-called “inclusive writing”, which basically puts the masculine AND feminine forms of nouns in the text. While its aim is to promote gender equality and reduce sexist stereotypes to “make women more visible” in texts, the Académie called it an “aberration”, which “now puts the French language in mortal danger, for which our nation will be accountable to future generations.”
Previously, texts have in French have only included the masculine form of nouns: for example, citoyen (citizen), consommateurs (consumers) or agriculteurs (farmers); but if inclusive writing was used, the words word be written as follows to include the feminine and plural forms: citoyen.ne.s, consommateur.rice.s, agriculteur.rice.s. Other examples include acteur.rice.s (actor/actress), ingénieur.e.s (engineer) and directeur.rice.s (directors).

Yes. Lafayette is supposed to be the heart of Cajun country but you go there and everyone acts like they are from the Jersey shore.
