It does not take more than a few pages for journalists Jon Allen and Amie Parnes to arrive at what amounts to their thesis in Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed 2016 Campaign, a new tell-all book built off years of reporting on the trail.

“[Clinton’s] campaign was an unholy mess, fraught with tangled lines of authority, petty jealousies, distorted priorities, and no sense of greater purpose. No one was in charge, and no one had figured out how to make the campaign about something bigger than Hillary,” Allen and Parnes write in the book’s introduction. “[But] no explanation of defeat can begin with anything other than the core problem of Hillary’s campaign — Hillary herself.”

It’s also the least meaningful part of the book. The second main argument Shattered makes is that Clinton herself was a flawed candidate whom no campaign team could have saved. This argument hinges on the idea not that Clinton was failed by her staffers, but that she failed them by never articulating a political vision they could use to capture the public’s imagination. It is in uncovering proof of this second thesis where the book is both most persuasive and most arresting — and where its lessons for the Democratic Party are the most salient.

Take their approach to winning Michigan. On the ground, Democratic politicians in Michigan like Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) were furiously relaying the message that union voters were turning on Clinton, that she needed to put field organizers on the ground as fast as possible, and that she hadn’t come out strongly enough against the Trans-Pacific Partnership. But back in Brooklyn, Clinton’s team was cautiously confident that Michigan would be hers.

“[Clinton] had complained to her communications team that her economic messaging sucked, and they’d told her to keep repeating it,” Allen and Parnes write. “But the problem wasn’t the way she was selling her economic plan; it was that the voters didn’t like her stance on the issue [free trade] that mattered most to them.”

If nothing else, they got that part right.

I have not but I do thank you for this thread.

The Democrat Propaganda Parrots who post here need to be reminded daily WRT the revelations contained in this important book.

The US electorate doesn't pay much attention to politics, but, they really need to understand how Democrats manipulate the truth and disrespect the average voter. This book provides important insight.

I read the book over the weekend.

***One or more of the high on the totem pole campaign workers had a clause in their contract that if she won, they got a 1 million dollar bonus.

***Mook and others formed muh Russians talking points shortly after her loss.

It was made clear blame had to be placed beyond her because they fricked up and wanted their careers to go forward. Muh Russians helps their resume' and future endeavors.

***In my KindleFire-the top review of the book reminded everyone that the writers of the book were democrats and to save anyone from getting accidentally robbed with nothing missing... HRC's huge foul-mouthed, crude hissy fits and throwing things was not in the book. (As it is) HRC is on the war path because someone leaked...

I plan on reading this book. Should be interesting, and good for a laugh. I'm sorry but the tears at her "victory party" after Trump won will remain as one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Do they go into detail about election day when they were toasting with champagne in the early afternoon then progressed to a tantrum with thrown furniture?

Whoops, I guess not. The sun's glare kept me from seeing that last bit.

Did you know that the more revered people/deities are closer to the bottom of a totem?

The order is opposite of what most think.

uh, no. Once you go down the socialism hole (as she was forced to do to best Bernie) there was no coming back.

Yes, I want whoever reads it to post excerpts from it as much as they can. This book is going to provide great insight into just how fake, contrived, cynical, dangerous and dishonest the Democrat Party has become.

SPOILER ALERT for those that will be reading the book.

They skipped her hissy fit about losing. It did read;how HRC was LIVID after a certain debate and cursed like a sailor a lot. As they all dropped the F word like it was nothing.

They spoke of election night with WJC and HRC sitting in the living room of their five star hotel down the street from their glass ceiling place. WJC was calling all over watching the news. He called his bud on the ground in Fla. first and was told it didn't look good. WJC was not too shocked he sensed Brexit would mirror the US but no one ever listened to him. THE KIDS IN THE CAMPAIGN called him old school.

HRC sat on the sofa frozen like a statue. She was not speaking or moving. Obama had to call her and basically order her to concede. She ignored him and said she wasn't ready votes were still coming in. Obama got Mook and Podestas number and called them. The book let's on she was frozen in shock is all not that she was in a huge hissy fit. But she probably was.

She told Obama she was sorry. Her pantsuit was laid out in the hotel suite bedroom and she wore the same pantsuit the next morning to give her speech. She overnight added to her speech (which they took all night to revise and rewrite over and over) the little girls would be so devastated crap that she lost.

Is it blunt and truthful or does it paint her as a loser because she wanted "to go high"?

Both but mostly butthurt from the campaign because they were shocked at her email crap and why she put her name on the foundation and did GS speeches. By the time she convulsed into the scooby van Huma was in charge and the way they said she had pneumonia was kept fromm everyone but Huma and maybe Podesta. I smelled BS in it and like I said. Democrats wrote it.

They had a team hired to go through the wikiLeaks emails to do damage control. (I saw Podestaaaaaaa tweeted about PizzaGate a few days ago BTW)

The overall gist I got was the muh russians crap was created to save face because at least one of them had the million dollar bonus in their contract if she won. IOW's high stakes and all bets were on a sure win for her. There was a dem campaign lady in MI that tried like hell to wake them up to the bellwether county breaking away from dems. It was dismissed.

They highlighted the Flint water crisis as her thinking she made a huge comeback and the planning of it was to pacify the people there for political points. The watching of the formation of the entire campaign of pure fake canned politics and a billion dollars wasted; is what THEY WILL NEVER get people are sick of.

The best thing about the book is that it provides convincing evidence that Democrats invented the "Russia hacked the election" story to deflect blame from HRC and to de-legitimize Trump.
